My father married my mother when she'd already had my oldest brother by another man. Would I follow my father's example?

I'd rather castrate myself.

Even though my family is reasonably functional today, this whole thing's been the cause of so many problems that in all likelihood would not have come up otherwise. For reasons which are too complicated and too long to state here, it especially screwed me (the youngest sibling), and I'm still dealing with the fallout to some extent.

My mother's mistake has been the source of so much anxiety and uncertainty for my family and (especially) me. Fuck, even though it's been nearly 30 years, the shit it caused still hurts enough to make my eyes tear up and my voice catch when I think of it all.

I'm subjecting neither myself nor my future children to that shit.

It's often said that people use their opposite sex parent as a template for finding mates. I love my mother despite all her flaws and mistakes. I love her despite the (unintentional) abuse I've suffered from her. I've forgiven her for it all. She's only human, she is my mother, and she did and still does try.

However.

I'm still not going to use her as a template for a mate. I just won't. She screwed up too badly.

To the women who read this; if you love you your children, or believe you will love your future children, don't have them by different men. The resonsibility is entirely yours.

I love how it tries to play on male insecurities, if you don't direct your resources which you've worked for, towards someone else's offspring, you're not actually a man.

Man up and marry these single mothers!

That's just the usual tactics:

  • "a real man is" ...a guy who does what they want
  • "a real woman is" ...a girl who agrees with their conceptions of life

And of course, they're the ones who have the right to determine who's real and who's not and those definitions change depending on the situation, i.e. when it suits them.

So really, who cares about what a supposedly "real man" is to them?

Personally I don't want to raise anyone else's kids. But don't redpillers as a general rule dislike the idea of boys being raised by single mothers? How does this fit into the discussion?

But don't redpillers as a general rule dislike the idea of boys being raised by single mothers?

Incorrect. We dislike the idea of children being raised by single parents.

How does this fit into the discussion?

Marrying someone else doesn't magically make the new person a parent. It can, in what I feel is a very small percentage of the time, but it's rare compared to 'My kids are #1 and always come first.' mantra that completely obliterates any chance of it.

So it's an issue of putting the kids before the new spouse then? Removing their potential authority as a parent?

[–]Endorsed ContributorTDCRedPill1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It also removes the potential authority of the new step parent as a equal partner to the parent.

It's a crappy situation with very little 'win' for anyone involved. The child will rarely get two equal parents. The step parent takes on responsibility for caring of the child/children, with little to no agency in how the child is raised and the lack of respect from the child in their more basic nature. They'll see the lack of authority and treat the step-parent worse. The biological parent will have less ability to bond with the step-parent since their most primal instinct will be the protection of the child, and the step-parent is an outsider in that goal; the parent knows that the bonding with the child will be less from the step-parent because of lack of history and blood relation. There are some cases, in my possibly incorrect view, rarely, where a solid family results, where the step parent has authority and respect. But these are very much in the minority in my opinion.

So, I personally avoid those situations. I'll have a much higher chance of a successful, long term relationship with a woman who doesn't already have kids. Get women to stop divorcing in such high numbers and we'll see less of that sort of situation in the future.
