I don't get why grown men play games either. I can't play games for more than few weeks for past 8 years. I tried to get myself hooked on WoW - no result. Diablo 3 - sorry, no. Skyrim - bored. Fallout 3 - bored. New Simcity, bought the game, couldn't play it, it's dull and broken.
All of them are based on simple game loop. Shit just repeats itself. Do this, do that, repeat. All of them have perfect strategies, paved ways, borders and limits, it doesn't let you be creative or go your own way.
The only game I can think of that is somewhere close to my ideal game is Minecraft.

This.

All in all, just feels like another form of shaming.

Any game with a competitive ladder is good - LoL, Starcraft, WoW [Arena or rated battlegrounds], and I'm assuming DOTA off the top of my head.

To really succeed in any of these games competitively, you need to find other skilled players, network, and develop your own skills to climb said ladders. And these relationships matter just as much as they do offline. The concept of "internet friends" vs "real life friends" is an ancient barrier that frankly does not apply anymore. I get to travel a lot, and more than a few times I've been in the same city or town as some of my online friends and I get to meet up with them and have a few drinks.

I'm curious to see if people that talk shit about gaming would say the same about chess, Scrabble, or other similar board games that have massive followings. The skills involved in the games are different but the competition is just as real.

If you're out for a game that changes every time, may I recommend a round of League of Legends? Yes, the map and objective is the same every time, but the players and characters aren't, requiring you to vary your strategy EVERY SINGLE GAME. I can play one mage character 10 games in a row, do something different every time.

dota is a better competitive game

League is good to start with. I'm offering starting solutions.

And I'd play a lot more Dota if I had the same camera controls I do in League (move mouse to edge of screen, screen scrolls)

Could anything be more repetitive than minecraft? Talk about tedious.

i don't think he's talking about the actual game, he's talking conceptually. he likes the idea of a world that you can do whatever in

WoW - The crack of game addictions.

Diablo 3 - Annoying as fuck with the online-only gameplay, even for single player games. Fuck that trend and fuck the XBox One for making it part of the fucking BOX.

Skyrim - Fun, but yes got old after a while.

Fallout 3 - Never played, but same idea as Skyrim but with guns.

New SimCity - Same problem with Diablo 3 and their DRM model. I will not play a game that forces me to be online and be at the mercy of their shit servers.

Read Everything Bad is Good for You, it presents a very compelling argument about vidya games providing cognitive exercise.

I don't see any point posing that argument simply to make women interested, though. And the OP is asking about gamer guys being "bigoted and ignorant" and then segues into how they don't get out of the house. Whatever the fuck she means by "bigoted and ignorant" is a complete mystery and I don't see anyone asking her to elaborate...

... Maybe she's just meeting guys who would rather beat Shadowmere to death with a club than put up with her shit.

It's a bold move by gamers. Let's see if it pays off.

I can't wait to get more girls into gaming!!!

/s

[–]Slenderman890 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Preaching to the choir. More women into games means even shittier gaming industry,

Also, I like my alone time. Dont need some bitch backseat gaming me - telling me to use a machine gun on a sniper map or telling me to switch to a sword "because it's sharper"

I think it depends on the gamer. I don't game nearly as much as I used too, but always had girls over. This was pre-redpill, and I didn't understand that they wanted to play with my dick and not play little big planet, oh well lol.

Gaming isn't the problem, not knowing game is the problem.

I did not play video games until highschool when I needed something to do that wouldn't get me hungover or burnt out for my sports.

Video games can help with stimulation and mental quickness. I'm not clear in neuroscience, only psychological anthropology, however there is a built in reaction and quick thinking used in some games. Some people can not do this and they suck at video games for it, some people have a natural skill for video games and I felt like I was one of them.

FPS games were my thing and I loved it, do not play them anymore but I plan on getting back in to it a bit.

Just like reading books and studying, you can do it too much and some people will just never be good at it. But for most, a little variation in mental activity is a great thing and will contribute at least a little bit when used in moderation.

I love video games and my chosen career involves them, but they are far from the only important thing in my life.

I've sorta lost my interest in gaming, but you're doing it wrong if you are justifying your personal hobbies and interests to women, I know successful high status men (being objective not sycophantic) who game and to be honest, when you consider how much time women spend on social networking sites, gamers have nothing to be ashamed of.
