There is a spectrum encompassing modesty, self-hatred, humility and cockiness. I think amused mastery is somewhere between humility and being cocky and most people like that kind of person best.

Is it just me, or does "amused mastery" sound like sound-bite bullshit to anyone else? I mean, I know what it is, and I get why the attitude is attractive, but it sounds like people are advocating just putting it on.

"I struck out dude. She didn't like me."

"No worries bro, just channel your inner Amused Master."

You can't fake amusement or mastery, and I imagine the same would hold true for the combo. Is there a memo I didn't get?

If you were genuinely interested in someone and it didn't work out, that would be a stupid response by your buddy. The way I would respond is:

"Damn, that sucks man. What do you think went wrong?"

Being a strong man doesn't mean you don't lean on your friends sometimes.

I just imagine jim carey laughing with the corner of his lip as ace ventura when I hear amused.

Modesty obviously won't help. Women like cocky guys, and it doesn't really matter if you buy their confidence or not.

When you're fucking alot of chicks, men are gonna hate you. It's just the way it is.

Women will dislike you too, but most still want to fuck you.

You are just gonna have to not care either way.

I was a really modest guy but not anymore. Thanks!

Nah man I was so much more modest than you!

You have to be careful with this

If I'm talking to someone and I get the impression that they're qualifying themselves or seeking my validation, then it doesn't make them look good. If someone needs me to know a bunch of cool stuff about them, then it's like the "I'm kind of a big deal" scene from The Anchorman. They end up coming across as more of a dork than if they'd just shut up and play it cool.

It's a tough call yes meekness & timidity in a man should be discouraged but that doesn't mean to go to the other extreme in response. Often men who show off the most & draw the most attention to themselves often set off my bullshit detector. IMO these guys come off as if they're over-compensating & very insecure about something in their nature. I sense there's something just beneath the surface in their psyche that causes me to be suspicious & distrustful.

Best advice I can offer is focus on building yourself up you accomplishments, character etc. You will naturally radiate confidence & alphaness. In other words deeds, not words. Make it so that other people brag about you & cannot help but do so & bask in the glory of said praise & all the benefits that stem from it

I'm not modest, but I'm actually much greater than I think I am.

This is a question of personal values. Women love cocky douchebags, but at the end of the day they are looking for the most alpha man in the room. I don't exhibit dark triad traits (mostly because I'm not a psychopath), I'm modest, I meditate, but I don't relax my standards or my expectations if she crosses that line. I have given up control.

I still pull like a motherfucker.

Being modest raises questions around where controlled lied in any given situation.

Too much arrogance about control can become unattractive to people who have to put up with the presence of an entitled person - the world simply can't be controlled in all situations and this fallacy will fall apart for anyone with a clue.

Give the impression of lack of control though and it comes off as slight anxiety - also not an attractive trait.

Men should lean towards an acceptable level of arrogance balanced with humoring the truth in the situation. Obviously going through life we delve in both spheres but always give the non-nonchalant impression of control where you had it if your aim is to be attractive.
