Nice guy or Alpha

I remember someone writing about a certain American president and his charisma. They said that when he talked to people, his focus on them seem so intense and genuine that they felt like the most important person in the room at that moment. That made them respect and look up to him. The attention of that powerful man made them feel special.

Obviously, it was a learned behaviour, fake, a form of manipulation. He was a politician, after all.

But it is an example of how you can be dominant but benign, strong but friendly.

When a strong king is merciful and kind, it is a sign of his strength. He is so strong he can afford to be benevolent, which inspires love and respect.

When a weak king is merciless and cruel, it is a sign of his weakness. He is so weak he can only rule through fear, which makes others want to destroy him.

You see this dynamic in play all the time. The ripped guy who is terrible with women and male friendships because he is so obviously insecure and overcompensating; and the average-looking guy who is drowning in female attention because he is fun, charismatic, deep, knows his own mind and inspires people to follow his lead.

There's a difference between being an interested, polite and courteous human being, and a "nice guy" aka push-over bitch trying to sycophant their way through the world thinking everyone owes them something because they've let everyone walk all over them.

Yeah, fuck that. SOME interest is good, but the talker is the dominant one, not the listener.

The book isn't that good, and it's severely dated now.
