Hello, this isn't the typical gain muscle while losing fat question but I've been juggling this idea around and was looking for some insight.

Just some background, I'm currently 180 pounds and about 15-17% body fat and at a point where I wouldn't mind cutting or bulking. Knowing I need to be at a caloric deficit to cut and a surplus to bulk, I can go either way. I eat a healthy diet with high protein and almost 0 added sugars. I won't go deep into my diet but take my word for it that it is pretty strict.

My question is that if I just eat about a normal amount for me each day while maintaining a healthy diet, should I see progression in fat loss and muscle gain as I increase my weight? I'm taking into account that some days I will be eating above maintenance while others I will be eating below. Since theoretically when I'm at a deficit I should be losing fat while maintaining muscle as well as gaining muscle on days I'm on a surplus, this should work right? If there is anything I'm missing let me know.

Thanks!
