Despite the obvious link, the authors (predictably) fail to acknowledge the giant elephant sitting in the middle of the room.

Evolutionary Psychologists are very much aware of the institutionalisation of feminism, and its dominance in academia. Evo psychologists are just playing the game, by omitting any association with humans they are able to state these findings without backlash from feminist dominated social sciences. It's a form of power talk. When among their peers they open up much more about "ideology" :)

From my understanding, this is based on observing the behavior of Bonobos, which are promiscuous in order to prevent infanticide.

There is a link between promiscuous species and testicle size. The idea is that larger testicles evolve in species with promiscuous females due to sperm competition. That is why bonobos and chimps have testicles much larger than humans (body ratio wise), and gorillas have relatively tiny testicles. An alpha male gorilla will defend females in his group from mating with any other male.

The conclusion that humans are more like bonobos than gorillas or chimps cannot be drawn so easily. Genetically, we are very similar to all of them.

Judging by the size of human testicles, it is likely human behavior is somewhere in between. It also should not be ignored that humans have the most complex facial musculature of all apes, meaning it would be even easier to identify a child that is not yours.

Just a thought, but if one applies TRP knowledge, perhaps the testicle size is due to AF/BB behavior. In a tribe, the alpha male may allow females to mate with beta males. The somewhat larger testicle size comes from coupled females then cheating on their beta bux with the alpha male.

Tl;dr Humans are probably in between gorillas and bonobos in behavior. There is some alpha male guarding, but also some promiscuity.

Of course, that's the whole reason adultery is such a serious crime in ancient texts. When people settled as farmers, they acquired possessions. They wanted to leave their belongings to their own offspring, so they settled in monogamous relationships so that they would know who their children were.

This was a completely new idea and did not come natural to us. The increase of divorce, promiscuity, cheating, it's reversal to the natural state. Now that the governmental welfare state is here to take care of everyone, parental bonds are not important anymore and there are far less incentives for a monogamous stable marriage.

Females are naturally driven to deceit would be the first jump, not promiscuity. Trickery that leads to AF/BB not copious promiscuity.
