You have options here. I don’t consider mate-guarding enough, and I am open to any links to RP philosophies on it.

I never mate guard. Don’t need to. Don’t want to. If my LTR puts me in a situation that would call for mate guarding, she gets demoted. I should have enough value that she doesn’t want to branch swing away from me, because I am the rad fucking prize.

Option 1.) Mate Guard yourself— you have rapport with this guy. I’d never do it with a stranger. You can appeal to him as a friend— “Hey, mate. Jill is into me, and we’re going to start going steady. Super hyped— I know you’re a good friend of hers so I may hit you up for some gift or date ideas later. Let’s kick it and do this awesome guy activity.”

Mate guarding can often times come from a scarcity mentality. Option 1’s response requires you to have enough dominion over your rhetoric that you don’t say, “Gee whiz— I am intimidated by you, since this lass with decent SMV could acknowledge your value to be higher than mine.”

Option 2.) Do nothing. If your friend decides to be a bitch about it, is he a friend worth having?

Option 3.) Have her do it. “Hey— I need to tell a few lasses that I am entering a committed relationship. I like to set clear expectations. You should do the same.”

Sounds like something weird is going on between them.

I'd wanna talk to your boy about the situation and find out what his side of the story is before taking any action.

I think if she really wanted this behavior to stop she would stop it - so it could be a ploy to get more commitment out of you.
