To me, when it comes to men, stereotypical NiceGuys TM, the kind that put women on a podium and think giving them gifts and favors builds attraction, the split between which men become BP and which men become RP happens in reaction to the same scenario.

Much of the pills debate, is centered around the identity of a woman. NiceGuys TM think women are angels, innocent creatures devoid of the capability to harm, or manipulate others. They(women) associate only with good people in this world, and thus would choose the gentlemen.

What happens, somewhere along the way in these men's lives, is they encounter the player. The bad boy. The playboy. A man who, for some reason, gains the attraction of many women, yet doesn't put an ounce of effort into any of the girls he is with. He doesn't buy them gifts, give them back rubs, carry their books, drive them places, nada. He gets much more sex and dates than the nice guy does.

So the NiceGuy, interprets this in one of two ways:

TBP way: This guy is evil, he is taking advantage of these women. He is manipulating them and deceiving them. He is ruining their quest to find true love. He isn't treating them good, he is just pumping and dumping them. I am going to protect these women from men like these, so when these women come to their senses, they will choose the good guy in town.

TRP way: What's going on here? Holy crap. This girl doesn't like gentlemen. She doesn't like nice guys. Why am I being so nice to her? This guy doesn't give a rats ass about her and gets instant access to her sexually! I am done with kissing up to women.

My view overall is that, TBP men antagonize men more, and TRP antagonize women, in regards to situations like these.
