In my time here, I have seen a few troubling aspects from individuals on the Red Pill side. Justifications for racist or misogynistic views, reductionism, anger/entitlement masked as "logic". That does not mean that all Red Pill theories are without merit.

There are people out there - men and women - who feel justified in using emotional manipulation or other dishonest means in order to get their way. This feeling of "fighting the good fight", believing their under handed methods to be ethically justified are exhibited most strongly in those who feel powerless. Either through perceived inferiority or from a self awareness of real prejudice aimed at them.

 

A good example of this is the Science Fiction short story writer Benjanun Sriduangkaew. A lesbian woman of Asian descent, she was hailed as a beacon of tolerance within the SF community, her work quickly gaining recognition and critical acclaim. She saw things differently. Rather than bring attention to the problematic issues she sees through her unique perspective, she opted instead to launch a ten year online attack campaign under assumed names. Targeting SF authors in her blog Requires Hate, she was a source of toxic misinformation, character assassination and public shaming of individuals who did not merit her venomous attacks.

Rather than take it sitting down, a female SF writer took it upon herself to expose Benjanun Sriduangkaew through a comprehensive report:

The result?

Apologies aren’t easy to make. I’ll do my best and acknowledge that it’s not a magic word. First, I will say that I stand by the substance of most of what I’ve said on this blog. But not how I said it. I’ve gained a much better understanding of consequences and how people work, and the way I said much of what I said ignored the humanity of those on the receiving end. It’s a failure of empathy on my part. I make no excuses about this: I own up to what I said, and I own up that I conducted myself fantastically badly. I believed I was doing good and was punching up, and that my methods were perfectly fine weapons when in actuality they really weren’t. No excuses: many things in life can contribute to you conducting yourself one way or another, but generally you have your own agency.

This will be the last entry on this blog. You won’t be surprised.

Complete secession of attacks, admitting fault and taking responsibility.

This is a perfect example of holding frame as I understand it. Holding frame to me is not gas lighting someone into believing falsehoods, a war of attrition until the other side concedes out of sheer exhaustion. It is calling someone out on their negative behaviour, until they take responsibility - allowing for honest communication to take place. I see holding frame not as a way to force another to submit, rather a way to wean a person off of bad habits in order to convey legitimate concerns.

 

I am sure that this sounds obvious to many of you, but if Red Pill lore has a method of successfully teaching this to those who are ill equipped to handle the kind of behaviour the likes of Benjanun Sriduangkaew practice, I say it is proving it's usefulness to many who need the guidance on this point alone. I would like to see a discussion on the merits of certain Red Pill theories. If my understanding of Frame is erroneous (the definition I read resonated with how I have learned to challenge manipulation), I am open to hearing more accurate definitions.
