It really depends on the situation. For me, if he's taken a responsible role in his children's upbringing, that's a huge bonus in his favor. If he's totally shirked on his responsibilities, that detracts.

It's totally dependent on the individual and the specific situation. Are you ready to deal with being a parental figure to a child? What is the man's relationship with the child's mother like? Do you think you could get along with the child and the child's mother? Are you ready to be involved in a relationship where it isn't just you and him but rather you, the child, and his ex?

Relationships are complicated, there are no absolutes, everything depends on all the individuals involved.

Should they? No, there is no "should". They should do what they are comfortable with. I personally, do not ever want kids of my own, but I have recently dated single dads, my last boyfriend and my current boyfriend. My current has a teenage son who is a very nice kid. I actually like the idea because it means they most likely do not want any more children and wouldn't expect me to bare their kids.

I also don't want any baby mama drama, so I pay attention to their relationship with their kids mother, it also shows how they are as a person. And how they are as a dad matters. Even though I don't want kids, I respect someone who is a good parent.

Fuck outta here. I'm not ok with dating a dad at this point in my life. I'm 21, no kids, and want to enjoy my youth. I certainly don't want to be shackled to a kid that isn't even mine.

I see a lot of shade thrown at terpers for not wanting to date single moms, but it's a stance I agree on. Being a parent is the most important role a person can have. The child MUST take precedence over a boyfriend/girlfriend. If you're not comfortable with that, you need to not date a parent. I'm selfish. I don't want to get bumped down the priorities list for a child that isn't mine. But I admit it and don't get involved with parents
