You enter a teletransporter and use it. It works by scanning your body, disassembling your matter, sending your matter at near light speed to another location, then rebuilding you there. Does this kill you?

Most of the people I ask think it is death- your stream of consciousness ends and another one is created, my religious friends think it would not work and a dead copy would appear at the other side. I personally think it is death, but it not as bad as a regular death and it might just be as good as survival.

To take it to a different level, what if an exact copy of you appeared at the other side of the teleporter, and you would disintegrate after 5 minutes. The exact copy of yourself would go onto to do everything that you would have otherwise done. Is this the same as regular survival?

My answer to the second question is to stop reading philosophy, and drink a glass of wine or play with your cat or dog.
