If your an ugly sperg then sure. If you're fit, good looking and confident you have nothing to worry about. Just start talking to people (male and female), and if the conversation goes well with a girl you like then steer them towards going for a coffee or hanging out after class sometime. If the conversation goes poorly just excuse yourself with whatever excuse (gotta get to class, take care) and leave.

I wouldn't say a bad reputation comes directly from cold approaching.

A bad reputation comes from striking out, particularly publicly.

A bad reputation comes from getting multiple dates but hiding your motives and then trying for sex and failing.

Succeeding at fucking multiple girls can get you a reputation, but there's no way it could possibly be bad for your prospects. It's only failing that makes you look like a loser.

Obviously, you learn through failing. You might want to start gaming girls at a nearby community college or bars that have local girls and not college girls.

Anywhere. I used to think it was only at career oriented groups and clubs. But great girls like to go to clubs or bars as well. They'll generally just be with a group of their close friends
