Drop the “Umm hi.” Sounds weak.

Complimenting her immediately can set the expectation that she is the prize.

I usually open with some sort of witty remark, but those tend to be situational, which isn’t much used to you.

You can always use ”Hi, I’m Tom” or whatever your name is. Don’t panic, it’s not the end of the world.

Your opener should be related to your environment. It doesn't matter much what you say but it should not be abundantly obvious that you're trying to pick her up.

you're just trying to start an interaction between two people and then gauge her interest based on body language and enthusiasm in her responses.

Example: if you're at a store and see a woman ( not a worker) you could ask her opinion on an item of clothing. If she seems happy to speak with you and in no rush to end the interaction you just continue the conversation for a bit.

If things go really well maybe you ask for her number, and maybe she even asks you for YOURS. Try to be outcome independent ....without the specific goal of picking her up. Just start an interaction between two people and see where it goes.

If you're not getting a strong vibe of interest bail out. Don't even bother asking for the number. Either way it was good practice. this way you don't end up chasing after a lot of women who only gave you their number to be polite or to avoid confrontation. The low-interest women.

pursue the women you're able to initiate a strong chemistry with from the start, and an ease of conversation.

Never start with "ummmm". "Thought" is past tense. Your phrase is making an apology.

Better: "You're cute. Hi. My name is ntmillz". or "Hi. You're cute. My name is .....". As soon as she responds, offer hand and shake hers.

The whole "you are cute" thing works for some guys and not others. Main point is that it doesn't matter, what matters is that she thinks YOU are cute, and that you escalate.
