The analogy is really overstretched. I doubt you can compare being locked in a compound with a bunch of crazy hippies to frequenting some low-quality shitposting webpages.

Pretty interesting. I was raised in a "spiritual movement". I like to call it a cult, and it does have some of the qualities they outlined in the documentary, but it doesn't quite meet all the criteria because people are not really taken advantage of.

The forums they mention can sometimes exhibit some cultish behaviour but you could say the same about most online communities. They certainly don't fill all the criteria. Pretty tenuous imo.

RP doesn't fall into explained's definition of a cult because it's not trying to gain anything from the members. It also doesn't have a central charismatic figurehead.

I grew up in a cult. I would say red pill is not a cult.

Definitely not a true cult but it does have some cult-like qualities.
