I think Hypergamy applies to men also, it’s a universal thing. Of course decent people aren’t gonna act on it and cheat but I reckon it’s human nature to always want something better.

Every human being has a time when they want to have sex with beautiful people. This is not exclusive to women. Getting over it and learning to appreciate people for more than their looks is part of the maturing process. When someone is dating someone - and this goes for literally EVERYONE (except like, arranged marrages) - your subconsciously adding and subtracting points. For example: Ohh, he knows how to cook! ++ Ohh, he still has contact with his ex -- . So yeah, in the end, you do want the 'best' person. Like, the ++ have to outweigh the --. But what makes someone a better person is entirely subjective.

I don't like guys who have a lot of money, for example, because I don't like it when someone pays for me all the time. I like things to be equal or I'll feel like I'm indebted. It makes me feel cheap & uncomfortable. And I don't have a lot of money, so if I'd be dating someone with a lot of money, he'd be "forced" to abandon some of his luxury, and I don't want to ask that of someone. So I actually prefer guys who are middle/ working class. Not saying I wouldn't go for it if I really liked him, but wealth would be a -- instead of a ++.
I'm not gonna say looks don't matter, but it's only a bunch of +++++ among many other things. I've dated guys I wasn't initially attracted to, but after years of friendship, we did end up together.
