Devotions with your spouse

While I've considered using a marriage-type devotional with my wife before, since swallowing the Pill I've changed my mind. Most of what I see out there seems to be pretty Blue Pill, "yes dear", woman-is-closer-to-God-and-therefore-always-right kind of stuff. Although I will admit I haven't searched in detail, so there may well be good stuff out there. I remember the one we did do together was the Love Dare book from when Fireproof came out. While it has some good points, it approaches marriage from a pretty blue perspective.

I prefer instead to stick to God's word, since that will ultimately be better than anything man writes. I know most would probably recommend the New Testament passages concerning marriage, but I think it is more important to focus on the spiritual development of the whole person rather than only address specific issues related to marriage. The more obedient to Christ and the Scriptures we become, the closer we will be to each other as husband and wife, since spiritual growth ultimately fosters intimacy in a marriage. The more like Christ we are, the easier it is to love and be close to each other.

My wife and I do the "ACTS" model of family worship.

Normally I select a passage of scripture to go over with her. Perhaps it is a whole book or chapter, sometimes just a verse or two, whatever I feel is needed or interesting at the time.

Next we go through the following:

Adoration: What causes you to worship God?
Confession: What sin do you need to confess?
Thanksgiving: What do you want to thank God for?
Supplication: What do you want to ask God for?

After discussing each bullet point I pray for us. It's easy, simple, and effective.

The obvious book is Song of Solomon, but I think going through any book or topic would be beneficial.

Corinthians has some good material, of course, that I've used with my wife.

My pastor loves to say, "The couple that prays together stays together." If a couple is open with each about the stuggles and concerns it is less likely they fill find comfort in the arms of another or will act out to get attention.
