i didn’t read the whole post because i disagree at the very premise. i would say it’s quite the opposite of what you say

it’s men who compete, but women decide who the winner is. and men are motivated and guided by what women consider a winner, and then compete further along those lines

so really it’s us men who are marionettes and dance to the women’s tunes. nobody wants to fight for the sake of it, not even wild beasts such as males...unless there’s a hope for reward. and that’s where women come in

they’ve even done experiments by giving a “beta male monkey” serotonin reuptake inhibitors (antidepressants that work on humans and other animals). basically the symptoms of depression and being low in the dominance hierarchy are similar. anyway, when they’ve given this beta male monkey antidepressants, he started acting differently; more condifently, less impulsively, less risk taking. fEMALES were the first to notice that and started acting differently towards him. and only AFTER the females changed the attitude towards the “ex-beta”, did the other males start to pick up on it and try to be more like him. it’s also interestig, the ex-beta didn’t really become more physically dominant, he actually became gentler and only fought when it was really neccessary. he had subordinates to fight for him instead. his primary function was mastery of social interactions, he settled the disputes among the group dynamics
