I just had a day trip with my mom and cousin in a small coach with other tourists.
A guy with long legs sat behind me and was shifting his legs constantly at one point, which would push my seat and consequently my back. I decided not to say anything because tbh I'm a non-confrontational dude and hope it would be just a 1 time thing. This then occurred several times and that was when I decided to just tell the guy to please not hit the back of my seat with his knees, to which he said ok and he didn't hit my seat for the rest of the trip, cool.
Now, the issue was his turd of a son, early 20s, who sat on the same row as him but basically to the right of him, and he was speaking in Italian which I understood but I wasn't fully listening so I am not entirely sure, but it sounded like he was just being salty over me telling his father not to keep hitting my seat.
This slightly irritated me since he acted like it was my fault when I really can't see it but being his fathers, but I decided to actively ignore him (if that's even a thing lol) as the reasoning in my head basically was that he is just being a manchild, that it is nothing personal and that his reaction is a result of the failed reasoning he has had in similar experiences in the past leading to an ingrained bad reasoning as a reaction to this type of experience, that there's no worth in talking trash back to him since it would fly in one ear and out the other, that he would rationalize his shitty behavior as he probably did in past similar experiences (long list lol).
Was this being stoic? I'll be honest, even though this reasoning ran through my head, there was negative reinforcement to the acceptance of this reasoning through my emotions priming me to just talk shit to him, like it irked me just keeping my mouth shut, that I had to stand my ground, if I understood it correctly, hold frame.
Is this a sign to trash talk/hold frame in future altercations, or that I should just keep on reacting this way and slowly condition these negative emotions out so that I can without emotional discomfort maintain a stoic composure?
Anyone have thoughts on how I should approach this in future issues?
