I don't see how it's ironic?

Because we would expect and anti-Semite to say that if someone has ugly thoughts they'd be pretty? Or because anti-Semites have ugly thoughts to Dahl himself was ugly? Or because we assume that since he was an anti-Semite that he thought there were some features which would be ugly regardless of a person's thoughts?

I guess potentially all of the above?
