Hmm, there's a separate problem on top of this actually.

In the way contemporary society is structured, apologising can also now become an admission of guilt that can be used against you.

The context of an apology, no matter how well meaning, is now spun to the other's advantage in a lot of examples you see of, say, people pressuring someone else to have a certain view or be a certain way.

Owning up to a mistake and improving yourself is definitely a good thing, but we're also living in a time where such things can and will be used against you.

I think this example is pretty telling because everyone in every walk of life is starting to see that apologies can't be made in good faith any more. Especially the people guilty of attacking those who apologise.

I agree. Why should a woman apologize when she doesn't actually feel regret? It just comes off as artificial.

When people do this at my office (and its mostly women) I always reply all. "Thats ok, no need to apologize we all forgive you."

They actually spent time thinking of ways to avoid apologizing vs the two seconds it takes to say, "My bad, I apologize." The efforts through to avoid responsibility is startling.

I kind of agree w her tbh especially when in 2020 saying sorry basically means your guilty of a crime
