Literally Me

Pre-lockdown I used to take myself out to a fancy restaurant at least once a month (sometimes once a week if I felt like it).

As a Senior Software Developer, I have a rather large amount of disposable income to play with, so I tend to go for high end restaurants where the main meal alone will be 60 quid upwards.

I dress up in in my suit, hair immaculate, designer stubble landscaped to perfection, walk in and say to the Maitre D', "Table for 1 please". The interesting thing is, if the Maitre D' is a man, there are no further questions about my visit, no messing about, i'm lead to my table and we exchange some polite chit chat about the weather or how my day was.

However, if the Maitre D' is a woman, then 100% of the time they respond by giving me a blank look and asking me "oh... table for 1?" as if i've just asked for something that's beyond the realms of imagination.

At this point I have to repeat myself "Yes, table for 1 please". On a couple of occasions they have actually said "i'm sorry we don't do tables for 1", whereas the men are intelligent enough to know that a table for 2 will suffice, i'll simply be dining alone.

It's almost as if women's brains freeze up at the concept of male eating out in a fancy restaurant alone by himself, it's as if they see the sole function of a fancy restaurant as serving a woman's needs to be wined and dine.
