I had posted a little while ago about the aftermath of my divorce, please see link:

I thought I would give a little update. After having done several day labor jobs, I had a construction manager who liked that I always showed up for work and was never drunk so he kept contacting me for jobs. It turns out his brother owned a small software company and over beers one night I told my story to him. He actually hired me on as a developer shortly after. I make a very good amount less than my prior life (I'm under 90k now) but it's good money coming in. I have paid my friend back for letting me stay with him for all of this time, even though he tried to tell me to not bother but I wasn't about to no pay my way.

My new boss is having his attorney help me submit a modification of support. I've also started to make payments. I have a pretty substantial arrears but I do not have any warrants out for me. The attorney I'm working with is confident that with the support payments I am making, and even if I was paying nothing, the current state I'm in wouldn't bother extraditing me, and that typically the state I was from would not issue a warrant if support payments, even if they were less than ordered, were being made.

So I thought I would never work in my industry again, but I am. I am paying what would have been typical support in my current state based on spousal support and child support based on my income at the advice of the attorney, so I don't have a lot of money but it sure beats the hell out of day labor cash jobs. I have a used car and have a small place to live. I am still nervous, as I'm not sure if I'm going to picked up or something especially seeing how court filings alert my ex as to where I am, but I'm not living off of the generosity of my friend as I was worried I was becoming a leach.

I'm not sure if I'm ever going to be out of the hole or not but I have my own place for the time being. It's a step up. I feel like I'm in a position where I have a few more options to work on my situation further. I was also able to get a replacement passport so I'm in a position that if I wanted to down that path I can go international. That's about the extent of my update for now.
