My beloved,

I know you will get up at the crack of dawn and ride out to fight the War that is threatening to swallow us all. I joke, I tease, I whine, and many time I splash my fear and anxiety over your safety back at you, like dirty water from a bucket.

You gently pat me on the head, kiss my forehead, smile and say "I'll be just fine, baby girl." We both know it's not guaranteed, especially now. You're a First Responder - that's who you are. Your calling is to run towards the fire, not away from it. That's one of the many reasons I love you. Things will get worse - I know this and I'm scared. Everytime you go out is another chance you might get hurt, get sick, and perish.

My beloved. Forgive me for being weak and fearful, I'm still learning to trust that you'll do everything you can to keep you safe when you're out there. Thank you for being patient with me as I fret and whine. I'll try to keep my anxiety to myself - you have worse things to worry about without me adding to the pile. All I can do is patiently wait and pray that you'll be back safe and sound.

But I can't keep you locked up and hidden in the safety of the house. You were born to fight, to protect, and to heal. That's who you are and you won't change for me. And that's why I love you. That's why I'll wait as patiently as I can.

My beloved, I'm strong because you're strong. I stand because I can lean on you. I'll wait, because I can't bear to face this world without you. So be careful, be safe, and ride on. The War is just beginning.
