If you feel insecure about dancing, take a look at everybody else. Regardless of gender, almost everyone looks absolutely ridiculous. That's how it works. Because you are not primarily on the dance floor to look good but to have fun.

Yep I have noticed you can display a lot of confidence on the dance floor. Just don't overdo it, it has to be congruent. You have to at least enjoy it a little bit...

Doesn't necessarily always have to be on the dance floor. And I agree, enjoying yourself on the dance floor is the #1 priority

They honestly don't even care if you're good at it. I go to all these Mexican parties where 90% of the shit is dancing, I know I'm doing a good amount of those dances wrong, I don't give a shit. The women don't either.

True, its all about the confidence you show by not standing by the wall with a drink in front of your chest to protect you.

Can anyone recommend practice methods or learning material to become an adequate dancer for bar/club/wedding type situations?
I don't really have the time or budget to take formal classes and I just want to be able to quickly practice when I find time.
I am an incredibly awkward on the dance floor when it comes to popular dancing music. I usually never listen to music that doesn't have guitar/drums so I have no idea what to really practice with, I also never know most of the songs being played when I'm out.
I find it hard to dance to this music because I find no enjoyment out of listening to it. I cant just let the music take over and dictate my movement because it makes no sense to me, and I feel like a fraud because I'm not familiar with it. But on the other hand I see the gold mine of benefits that possessing even just decent skills in the area can have. Has anyone overcome a similar situation?

If you really wan't to learn to dace, you will make the "time or budget to take formal classes"
No one cares about your excuses.
If you have a weakness, fix it. (There are no shortcuts)
That said, i've been taking salsa lessons for a good two years, this has greatly improved my foot work and confidence.
Learn merengue. Basic two step, for any and most beats.

I've found the perfect solution. You should help JohnnyDelaware with dancing and perhaps he can return the favor by teaching you grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
No excuses. If you have a weakness, fix it.

You understood what I meant.
So why bring up such trivial remarks?
Thanks for contributing to the conversation bro...

Man, you could twist your torso back and forth and be "good at dancing" in this day and age.

Youtube. Find something you like then practice.

It's a pretty bizarre fascination, at that. Dancing doesn't give me any particular feeling and the way women rave about it, not to mention the time and money they'll waste doing it, truly confounds me. Plus they suck at it.

Women don't like to dance. They don't even know how. Their idea of dancing is just flailing around and grinding their asses on the cocks of random men.

There's something bitches love more than dancing. They love to see you dancing. Monkey dancing to be more precise. To their tune.
I ain't gonna be nobody's court jester just because there MIGHT be a drunk, sweaty, salty, smelly pussy at the end of that tunnel at 3 or 4 in the morning.

This gave me a good chuckle.

Greek god physique + day game/online game (excluding tinder) > than everything else (short of being extremely rich).
How am I to recover after an intensive workout and maintain my gains if I'm out doin' da monkey till 4 am, qualifying myself to drunk, tramp stamped sluts that don't deserve a second of my attention?
At 6'3, 210lbs, 10%, I walk down the street or go to a shop and I get to pick and choose from all the women that are flirting with me. I add pics and write down my rules in my dating profile and sit back, relax and wait for the women eager to qualify themselves and dance to the tune of a strong, disciplined, masculine man--not some sorry mutt jumping through hoops with the hope of getting a doggy treat.
Clubbing/bar hopping is the lowest, most degrading and most effeminate form of picking up the lowest form of women.
With all of that said, currently I'm in a satisfying long term master/slave relationship and I've no need to pick up women. But when that time comes, it won't be difficult because I stay egoistic and disciplined.
So my advice to all the men struggling here is simple. Lift, eat, sleep, don't drink, be disciplined, get on TRT (self-administered if you're not covered), acquire abundance mentality and a DGAF attitude, and you'll never have to spend another humiliating night in a club/bar again.

Believe me. That 40 pounds of muscle in four years didn't come without pain, sacrifice & discipline.
My height/endomorphic body was a curse, an aesthetic nightmare, the source of severe insecurity. Women still showed interest in me (albeit far less than now) because my face was ok (just ok mind you) and I was tall (despite being super skinny), but I couldn't pursue them because I was too insecure.
TRT made me the man I am today. I know I'm cheating, but it was the only way to achieve physical symmetry and aesthetics and regain at least some of the amazing confidence I had as a prepubescent "alpha boy", before puberty went and transformed me into a lanky stork with a big nose.
So I certainly wouldn't call my life easy mode. If that were true I wouldn't be posting here.
The takeaway here is DO NOT HESITATE TO BENEFIT FROM SCIENCE.
What was once a curse (my body type), has now become a blessing thanks to science/steroids (endomorphs on roids = little water retention, visible abs at all times).
I was 28 when I finally took the the plunge. Five years too late as far as I'm concerned.

Being physically coordinated enough to dance well translates to the perception that sex will also be good.
Personal anecdote: I dance quite well I'm told. I've cleared entire dance floors, every female jaw in the club is on the floor. Once, I was honestly just dancing to my favorite music at the club all alone, and out of NOWHERE HB9.5 is in front of me grinding her fine ass into my cock, hard. I took her home of course.
It's a highly valuable tool to have.
Edit: Taking the girl home ended day 74 of r/nofap for me.

The most alpha man I know, who, in the day, had the tightest club game I've ever seen, NEVER EVER danced.
I do think there is something to being a capable social or swing dancer, where you demonstrate mastery and lead a woman in a more sophisticated setting.
But jumping around like a monkey with your boys waiting for girls to approach is NOT red pill. Yes dancing can be an ice-breaker, and yes you can get a lot of physical contact, especially from drunk chicks in the dark. But that is some pretty blue pill basic stuff right there.
