Re alimony etc. There is a movie called Divorce Corp on Netflix now that people need to see about the corruption in the family court process and the huge money lawyers and judges make from you. Also show how it is done in Scandanavia.

Do not get married in the US. That is really the only way a man can protect his assets and what he's worked for. The courts will automatically hand a minimum of half your stuff over to your ex. Fault for the relationship breakdown be damned, and it doesn't matter if she didn't contribute a dime.

At the end of the movie there were people holding up signs protesting the judge decisions and I was thinking "it's useless what you're doing, this is a billion dollar industry, the judges and lawyers (who are buddies working together to milk you for as much money posssible) are filling their pockets and your stupid protest signs are t going to do jack shit".

I watched the movie. It correctly identifies the issues, but not the reasons.

While attorneys make good money off the cases, it is the client's refusal to settle, not the attorneys, that causes the cases to drag out indefinitely.

Another example; the movie says attorneys have clients fill out asset sheets (it lists all money, property, etc.) so they can figure out how much to milk the clients for. That's not true. The assets info is the point of the divorce--what has to be split and how. Not giving an asset sheet is like refusing to tell a criminal defense attorney what you've been charged with. Most attorneys can tell you quickly how the assets should be divided, it's up to both parties to agree.

It's in financially lopsided marriages that nastiness ensues. One won't get much if divided fairly and can make the other pay all fees, so has no incentive to be fair.

No, it's not perfect, as it implies that men and women can have it equally rough in family court (total bollocks). But in every other way, doc expertly exposes the insane levels of corruption in the system.

Any man who just blindly stumbles into marriage in this day and age is nothing less than a total, ignorant fool. Don't get married at all. And in the rare case that you feel you must, then you damn well better get a team of expert attorneys to draft the mother of all pre-nups.

It was a good movie for us because here we only seem to focus on the wife/mother that we ignore the system at times. If you pay attention you see the gynocentrism because they only show all the poor women that have to pay alimony cause who cares about the men he's the one that's supposed to pay right.

The scandanavian way only seems preferable because everyone suffers equally. I don't want to live a country with 60%+ tax rate. This only seems preferable to divorce rape because everyone is essentially being robbed by the state rather than just the suckers who get married.

Preferably, free market marriage where the economic ties cease after the romantic one do would greatly benefit men.

Sorry to say but the documentary is not really that accurate. Its a typical OMG LOOK AT HOW GOOD SCANDANAVIA IS LOLOLOL. The fact of the matter is that family law is actually family laws, and there are 50 sets of it in the US. Just because California is particularly fucked doesn't mean everywhere is that bad. Some of the trends apply across the board obviously, but some jurisdictions are MUCH better than others. California is the worst of the lot.

First off, "Family Court" should be called "Misery Court" b/c that's what goes on there.

Avoid marriage. If you do get married, do it as an ex-pat. If you get married in the US do it with a pre-nup in a non-fucked up state (some are not as bad as others).

Oh, and have a stash of cash that she doesn't know about somewhere. Build it up over time so it can't be traced by a forensic accountant. And keep your fucking mouth shut about it. Have a letter with its location stashed with an atty (ideally not your regular guy) so that upon your death (and her death) your heirs get it. The atty should have ZERO idea about the contents of the letter, just to give it to whomever when the time comes.
