In a manga called "Gantz" there is a scene that I'll never forget.

It's following the day in the life of a 4 year old boy named Takeshi who is living with his single mother. While he is home alone, he goes to the fridge and takes a pudding cup which he eats.

Later, his mother and her boyfriend come back home and the boyfriend beats Takeshi to death for eating his pudding cup while his mother just stands there without a care in the world.

In this fictional tale, it's the mother's boyfriend who beats the child to death for eating a pudding cup.

In real life, it's the mother who beats her own child to death for eating a cupcake.
