I'm reading the epic poem 'Don Juan' by Lord Byron, who died almost 200 years ago. The way he describes relationships in that era are no different. Women are demanding of their husbands and beating them with their hand-held fans. The main characters mother is described as a perfect woman who tries to prove that her husband is mentally incompetent to get him locked away and the two are constantly trying to get a divorce even then.

It just amazes me to see how strong this idea is of women just ruining their husbands lives with lies.
