Half-breed here. The thing that's missing here is that these stories like this come from traditions handed down since before the Europeans essentially wiped out the culture. A lot of feminists have tried to paint a narrative the culture as primarily run by women, idyllic, and ultimately corrupted by the white mans intervention, which is naive at best. Given that women tended to farming, and men tended to the hunting and fishing both genders had an active role in trying not to starve to death over the lean months of winter. Another consideration is that marriage and divorce were really easy, but adultery often resulted in death. So the moral of the story, from their perspective is to find a male who is a good provider: the buffalo, and avoid a guy that's just playing the field: the weasel.

Because they knew that for the society they lived in letting the hamster run wild would be catastrophic rather quickly.

But never forget how much she she wanted to play with the weasels and for how long before turning to the buffalo. Also do not fail to understand than unlike her desire for the weasel's fun that made her seek them out it is not because of her desire for the buffalo that she now follows him, but a desire to escape the freezing and unforgiving wind.

EDIT: The more I think about it I have to ask, how in the fuck is it superior to be so damn stupid you don't know to get the fuck out of the winter wind and snow? I get why it's important to be able to withstand it if necessary, but seriously any woman stupid enough to stand out in the snow, behind a buffalo or not, instead of in a weasel's nice warm burrow which let's the earth do all the work to provide warmth (not to mention the weasel being smart enough to build the damn thing while the buffalo was only intelligent enough to fucking grow hair) is not a woman worth having. Fuck being the buffalo. Be the god damn wolf! Smart, fast, strong, deadly as well as social and playful. The wolf will eat both the weasel and the buffalo and fucks all the bitches in the pack.

EDIT+: OP, I don't like your metaphor at all, but it is well and artistically written. Do something similar but this time use a wolf or a cougar or something. Those have to figure in Native American lore somewhere. (Does Sasquatch factor into Native American myth? In the Pacific Northwest maybe? I could really dig a story about Big Foot alpha fucking all the weasels and just fucking all the women!)
