Unpopular opinion on this thread perhaps, but ...

Paternity fraud matters, but it isn't the child's fault. If OP has raised this boy for 15 years, the boy considers him his father. Making the boy suffer because of his mother's fraud is wrong. Period.

I have a 14 year old son that I've raised from day one. He's not my spitting image or anything but he's the right height and race that I'm pretty sure he's mine. But, if I found out otherwise (and let's not kid ourselves that's always a real possibility in any relationship), I wouldn't change a thing. If that makes me a cuck, then so be it.

But if I found out during the pregnancy or soon after birth, all bets are off.

I couldn't imagine being the father/dad to a child for 15 years, then disowning that child. This guy is fucked up. Disown her, but that's your child forever.

I am more than a little surprised at the comments in this thread. I can't believe the lack of sympathy from mgtow of all places. I mean, are REAL mgtows telling a victim of paternity fraud to man up and take care of the kid who isn't his? LIke really? Unbelievable.

To spell it out a little bit more clearly, evolution and thus evolutionary psychology suggests that it would be good to for a "father" to recognize a child isn't his (perhaps unconsciously) and thus not invest more than necessary. Same goes for a kid recognizing that ain't my real father, best not piss him off especially but also no need for loyalty. If in any way possible, it would be built into evolutionary psychology to recognize it on the part of both parties. Which makes it quite understandable if the relationship between the two isn't great even if they don't consciously know why. So a man has a bad relationship with his "son" for possibly evolutionary reason and then he realizes the little shit isn't even his. I would be willing to bet this is exactly what happened. Ya, you want to get your costs back. Seriously /u/gege33 you should seriously consider banning these fake mgtows in this thread. They don't get it.

I’d be pissed and divorce if I was in that situation (I wouldn’t have gotten married in the first place) but I wouldn’t neglect the child.

My first divorce attorney has already quit over this so I know it’s a complicated issue. I’m here to gather some information so that I can be prepared and efficient when meeting with the next one.

To make a long story short, in the split it has come out that my soon to be ex wife’s child is not mine biologically. I realize that the circumstances (her lying about going through with the insemination versus lying about an affair) are somewhat different from the average, but the fact of the matter is that this child is not mine. I know that legally I will be facing a massively uphill battle in recouping my past costs, so going forward I will only be seeking removal of my name from the birth certificate and a stop to any further costs (child support, college tuition, etc.)

How do I prepare for this? What do I need to know? Any relevant cases I can read up on? Is there a point at which I could cite emotional damages? Is it really fruitless (as first attorney called it) to consider the pursuit of fraud charges against my ex?

Furthermore... in the comments, it becomes clear that while he is CERTAIN that the child is not his... it is NOT clear that the child is actually from the IVF "sperm donor"; but may in fact have been from an "affair" (the whole IVF thing being just a convenient cover to allow her to "cuckold" him with some unknown "Chad" baby) -- apparently the mother as much as admitted this in conversation with him.

EDIT: BTW also, at least in the OP's comments that are still available (some may have been [deleted] or [removed]) there doesn't seem to be ANY indication -- one way or another -- regarding the kind of "relationship" this guy has had with the kid... but I would think that in and of itself (that he seems to have no "sorrow" over it, doesn't really mention anything) speaks volumes in it's "silence", and is a pretty clear indicator that the man and the boy have probably NEVER "bonded" as father/son... certainly not in any positive way.

Basically that would mean the mother has essentially just used this guy as an ATM to raise HER son... and apparently the marriage itself hasn't been the best either (in which case is there any doubt really that HER awareness that the kid WASN'T his, not to mention her probably having some kind of "side affair" {one or several} going on, probably created a pretty "cold" household).

No I think you entirely misunderstand.

I don't think anyone here is saying that the guy has to continue to support the kid.

Now, ultimately it's up to this guy* -- IMO there is no MORAL or ETHICAL requirement that he continue to be involved in the kids life.
