Visiting my parents, I (42) told them (after the usual "when do you marry?!?" (I have 2 married siblings)) that I don't plan to marry - especially not a woman with a child. My mother became bitter. I told her, that my little brother (who married a woman with a child (boy) and now has 3 daughters with her) is probably not that happy (my nieces are quite loud) as she thinks - and he movies every 3-4 years to make more money to pay his debts ...

I may be living alone and I am not as free as I want to be, but its way better than his life.

I remember dealing with this shit with a college gf. She wanted a ring, but:

Didn't want kids
Didn't want to work (unless you count sitting at home writing shitty fantasy-fiction novels as "work")
Had a shitload of school loans for an English degree and planned on doubling down with a similar Masters

It took me a bit of time to realize the trap I was walking into, but thankfully I dodged that bullet once the sex dried up (was great at first, but slowly drifted away as she got more comfortable).
