An s&p index fund mirrors the s&p index. The benefit is you do not buy a single company that might go bust you effectively buy the market which spreads risk. The s&p index has done very well over the last few years. However I feel it is currently a bad investment. Asset classes go in cycles. We are currently at the end of such a cycle. At the end of a cycle you get rapid up and down movement followed by a sell off.

In these times the trick is not to make money but avoid losing it. I suggest a gold etf. Currently the us is spending 500bn on interest out of a taxation income of 3.2trillion. The effective interest it is paying is 2% very low by historic standards. Say interest rates go to 4% it means a third of all tax income would go on interest payments. Further Russia China Iran and Turkey are currently attempting to move oil off the dollar standard. Currently all commodities are traded in usd even if the two countries do not use it. Further 90% by value of traded commodities are oil. If countries stopped this practice a lot of usd would head back to the USA and the value of usd would fall.

I see a30-60% fall in the s&p within 2-3 years

r/wallstreetbets is the place you are looking for, lots of cool guys that like to refer themselves as autists and are more than willing willing to help. You are only 24 and long term investing will work for you, just disperse your investments into some ETF and Index funds, possibly expose yourselfe to some crypto and in the long term you should be fine. Just invest long term and that is basically it.

first research your available tax shelters and the tax situation in general regarding investments (e.g. capital gains tax). there's no risk to this and it's a big force multiplier for investment income
