No she didn't.

She thought he was talking about actual friendships. But actually he was talking about when women lead men on under the pretext of "just being friends" (while knowingly feeding the men's irrational hopes of eventually getting closer) in order to exploit the male acquaintance for receiving one-sided emotional support.

So both are more or less pretending to be interested in a friendship. Because he would eventually like more than friendship (especially if there is a big emotional tax involved), while she actually wants less than friendship (utility/servitude), but she will use the term "friends" to keep him at bay while she gets what she wants out of the situation.

I mistakenly read the comments on this and my balls shrivelled up. There were men talking about how surrounding yourself with other guys can cause a bubble of toxic masculinity and that women are just such better listeners than men. I finally had to stop when I read a comment from one guy saying that men should be careful not to use their female friends as free therapists and overburden them. I wanted to gouge my damn eyes out. All of the most supportive people in my life are men, and female advice is given from the female perspective and so pretty much often useless for men.

I’ve got plenty male friends. The last thing we would do is get together and complain about life. Generally speaking, we drink, laugh, game, and joke. If one of us was in trouble and someone can help, they do that. But above all, we don’t burden each other with petty whining and windging!
