Dating for 5 years, lived together for 3 of them. Recently brought up marriage( not needing a wedding) for tax benefits as well as hospital visitation and health decision rights. He adamantly opposes ever marrying.
Ok, we live together. I pay him rent which goes towards his mortgage. I dutifully do so even when I was on unemployment and it would have meant the world to me for him to say "you're in a low place right now, you don't have to pay this month while you job search and buy groceries/cover utilities and your own phone bill. But that would never happen. He knows my pay schedule and delights in reminding me "tomorrow you get paid, rents coming up might as well send it over tomorrow".
We split meals when we eat out. I treat him to movies and nice dinners when I can, and vice versa. He reminds me when I haven't treated him in awhile. I had to beg him to cover a hospital visit that I could pay back in one day for an emergency(and did), because he refuses in his words "to take care of you". Alright cool now i'm feeling like I can't rely on him for emergencies. Literally told me don't go to the ER it's too expensive, wait until morning it can't be that bad. It was actually bad. And in the morning reminds me my condition that night made him lose sleep.
But he is refinancing his mortgage and he constantly wants to discuss this with me, the value of his property, and is upset when I am not invested in the conversation as he is. I feel like a secretary. He is angry that I don't want to go to his HOA meetings with him. He is angry that I don't want to emotionally invest in what his property will be worth in 5 years, or work with him to change things in the HOA and neighborhood.
I work and pay him rent and that is how it will always be between us so I don't feel the need to help him with his mortgage any more than paying my rent towards it. I plan any vacation he wants to go on and always cover my half of transit and housing, and write down what we ate and what we spent so when we come home we know exactly who spent what.
It is exhausting. Money is discussed daily in this house, did I pay him back for my half of last nights Uber? He bought dinner last night so he reminds me tonight its my turn. He bought me a beer so I should cover the food. Money money money. No partnership. I'm not a succubus or a gold digger but I feel like I'm treated like I'm an opportunistic one. I don't give a SHIT about your refinancing because it doesn't affect me. Why is that not good enough of an answer to end the conversation?

Straight from the horses mouth. Wants to get married for financial and healthcare reasons. No where does she say how much she loves this man and wants to spend her life with him. Nope. Just money.
[–]WADegenerate[S] 25 points26 points27 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Not only that; she says that she wants to get married for some mundane benefits to avoid the fact that she just wants his shit and to not have to be financially independent or responsible. She then goes on for paragraphs how it's not fair that she has to pay for her own shit and it's so hard on her. Why can't he just let her live there for free and pay for all of their vacations and nights out? Then the comments all say that he is an asshole for not doing so. In reality, this man is a champ taking charge of his own life. He is all about equality and she is all about how it's not fair that he won't be financially be responsible for her as if she is a dependent.
[–]omegajams10 points11 points12 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Indeed, if they get married, she divorces him and gets the house. He is no moron, and did not get to where he is in life by making poor decisions.
[–]Supersonic_staples5 points6 points7 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Standard tactic, same as proposing moving in to share bills and make both better off. The idea is she knows the traditional line of “love” won’t work and she wants to be seen as “totally cool and laid back and not marriage crazy” so they try making the practical argument.
I don’t know if that’s ever worked though.
[–]EndlessPatriotism3 points4 points5 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Couldn't have said it better, I copy and pasted it replying to all of the people on her side. I'm ready to lose some karma.
[–]ICBMasterbater36 points37 points38 points (5 children) | Copy Link
I cannot even convey the admiration and respect I have for this man! Well, he could go monk mode but 1 step at a time I guess.
[–]WADegenerate[S] 21 points22 points23 points (2 children) | Copy Link
All the commentors saying he is an asshole for not allowing her to basically be his dependent as well. Fucking christ lol
[–]omegajams13 points14 points15 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Nobody dared to ask the tough question. What if the man loses his job, and has to downsize his life and sell the house? Will the woman step up and pay more than half to cover his share? The "stepping up" part is only the man's responsibility it seems, and there is where the hypocrisy lies.
She is with him because he is a higher status male with a house, money, and decent career. The "cheerleaders" advocating for her to leave him are hilarious. Hit that open market right before you hit the wall sweetheart, I am sure it will turn out great for you. /sarc

Women can't handle equality.
[–]markentingh2 points3 points4 points (1 child) | Copy Link
If he doesn't kick her out of his house, he will eventually be legally married to her.
[–]ICBMasterbater0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
I think technically she is a sub renter and not living with him or something. I’m not sure but yeah he could potentially still be divorce raped
[–]TheObelisk19 points20 points21 points (0 children) | Copy Link
They sure hate being equal.
[–]WADegenerate[S] 18 points19 points20 points (0 children) | Copy Link
So this guy is good with money and refuses to be taken advantage of and this harpy is pissed about it. She says that she wants to get married because of "tax benefits" and "hospital visitation rights" and other boring shit but then goes on this long rant all about money. When she was out of work, she was upset that she still had to pay rent. When they go on vacation she is upset that she has to pay her own way. When they go out to eat she is upset that he expects her to pay for herself or take him out once in awhile. All she really cares about is money and goes on and on about how hard it is to always pay for herself.
Sorry it's hard to be financially independent and responsible ya dumb harpy. You are obviously looking for a fall back plan so that you can be lazy and not have to try at anything and if he marries you, you will obviously divorce rape him at about the 5 - 7 year mark when you can without a doubt take half or more of his shit including his house. You say that you want to get married for tax reasons etc but then rant for many paragraphs how it's unfair he won't financially support you like you were his kid.
What's worse is that the comment section is full of people saying leave him and he is an asshole all because he won't allow her to be his dependent. Equality my fucking ass. Too fucking funny.

Alpha male.
[–]AnnoMachina011 point2 points3 points (2 children) | Copy Link
No, he's cohabitated for 3 years.
[–]smokeythecat4202 points3 points4 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Even natural alphas slip up. But he's smart for keeping her legally at arms length from his assets
[–]The_Shorto2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Hopefully the state they live in doesn’t have “Common Law Marriage”.
[–]shatterthecrystal6314 points15 points16 points (2 children) | Copy Link
Notice how this is being worded to make him sound like a piece of shit? Yet, she's still with him, and posting about it on that sub, seeking validation for the way she feels about it.
That's a woman all over.
[–]Scorpiontail7 points8 points9 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Not to mention her providing only the facts that support HER side of the argument and failing to disclose the other - - less beneficial to her - - facts. How much does SHE earn (is it more than him, now that she's not employed)? Is she paying market rate for HER half of the house/apartment, or do they share a room (& bed)? Etc.
[–]shatterthecrystal633 points4 points5 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. AWALT, no surprise here.
Well, on with my day. Gonna go for a run and stream some fun games for bored people who have time to watch Twitch streams during the night shift. Lol
[–]Astral-Projector10 points11 points12 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Translation: i don't wanna pay rent when i know the money is going to a asset i can't steal when i divorce-rape him.
I also don't wanna split everything 50/50 because he don't wanna get married and it's not fair.
Buhu you fucking worthless cumdumpster.

Man, what a great guy. He's running things right. She should hang onto him and give him every bit of sex that he wants. She'll be too stupid too, however. She'll probably dump him for some bozo who worships her and is spineless and lets her get away with everything.

The comments are gold. When its a man who makes a woman pay her fair share... dump him. When its a woman who makes you pay than and more, you need to man up and you aren't man enough for her.
Funny ass shit.
[–]WADegenerate[S] 1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Yup. My first thought was that if the roles were reversed he would be getting called a leach, have his manhood questioned, and get made fun of for being a loser. Whatever works for the woman is the way the tide will turn in the comments.
I got a three day ban that referenced a comment and a message from the moderator "how was that advice?" when I made a comment that she claims to want to get "tax benefits" to get married but rambles on about how she thinks that he should have paid her way when she was out fo a job and paying her own way on vacations is just unfair and blah blah blah and just pointed out that she needs to check her thought processes and it's good that he is not marrying her because her values are obvioulsy about contributing less and getting more and she would probably divorce rape him in five years.
She asked for advice. I pointed out her entitled selfish thinking. I got banned. I wasn't even mean about it but hey, the moderators want to white knight then let them.

Why do people always use the excuse for marriage: "Tax Benefits"?
I was married for 5 years and I didn't see any fucking tax benefits at all. People are stupid.
Hospital visitation? Really? I worked at a hospital for a while and no one ever had to show a marriage certificate to visit a patient. It's not a fucking prison, it's a hospital...
Health decision rights? Hell no, I don't want ANYONE making decisions about MY health. If I am relying on machines to keep my vegetable ass alive, pull the damn plug and let me go.
[–]MichaelSkarn_FBI2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Hospital visitation is a myth. Some units may have limits based on number of visitors at one time or to certain times during the day. Otherwise the only limits are if there is an alleged crime involved.
Anyone can appoint someone as a Durable Medical Power of Attorney. Hypothetically, a man can appoint his girlfriend his DMPOA and that would actually hold more legal authority than his wife. Wife says keep him alive, girlfriend says pull the plug, whoever he has appointed DMPOA has final say. Just make sure anyone you appoint DMPOA know and understands your wishes.
You can also get an Advance Plan of Care/DNR/DNI any time (exception: during a psychiatric hold.)
[–]pull_a_sickie3 points4 points5 points (1 child) | Copy Link
He’s not taking advantage of her. Their living expenses are split equally. Although not mentioned, presumably he’s astute enough with finances and acquired the mortgage before they got together. So he was a home owner before the age of 25, he’s done very well for himself in that case. He’s even invited her to take an interest in that thing he values most - his appreciating asset, and she shows no interest.
[–]SamsAdvice6 points7 points8 points (0 children) | Copy Link
The one thing I could see being valid, is not being interested in HOA and his appreciating value. It doesn't benefit her. Everything else she says, thats part of being independent.

Good job, even paying rent establishes a tenant renter relationship and not a common law marriage.
[–]SamsAdvice1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
I learned something new.
[–]Xiphwork2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
It's funny that's exactly the type of relationship I would call equal. I would encourage her to get her own place.
[–]_bari__1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
That bitch is retarded. She's mad because he pays for his shit and makes her pay for her own. I dont see the problem. He doesn't want to get married then good, you can't rape him then. If you really that upset about it just find some other simp to drain. I'm surprised he even let's you live with him BE GRATEFUL OR BE GONE.

So maybe I'm odd but to me a good relationship should be able to last as long as possible without marriage . marriage doesn't make the partners better, marriage doesn't enhance the love that's already there, marriage is something you agree to do after you've already decided " I want to be with this person forever" ..... if you've decided that you want to be with someone forever .... why get married ?
Women get sold and brainwashed on this bullshit that it's " taking the relationship to the next step" but is it ? If we're happy together right now, we've been happy together like this FOR YEARS .....why would we add a new wrinkle that may ruin the happiness we're experiencing right now ?
I think men are perfectly happy to be together forever without a big show or display, it's women who crave and pursue meaningless ceremonies like marriage which can and do ruin a good thing that's already going .
You can be happy forever with someone without marrying them .
[–]SamsAdvice3 points4 points5 points (0 children) | Copy Link
To add on, why do some friendships lasts so long, neither party is pressured to sign a contract.
"Love a person in a way that makes them feel free"...in friendships you usually feel free. In marriage, you feel caged, controlled, lack of freedom, penalty for divorce, etc.
