Working in the industry for 20 years, I have never seen an out of this world intelligent woman.

From my experience, 1 in 10 were worth their price.

You can't compare, a guy who will stay up until 3:00am on message boards, newsgroups, writing prototypes, messing around with routers, vlans, languages, compilers, OSes, pluralsight course, etc to a girl that treats the career as a 7 hour job.

I take that to mean not only were you (personally) NOT part of the "decision to hire" this person... but that you (personally) were not even involved in any of the "interview" process.

Now I'm not certain if by "my team" you mean you are in charge (managing/supervising) that team, or if you are just one of the "peon" members (or perhaps your org is one of those insipid-stupid kinds that "eschews hierarchy" and claims to have a "flat org structure" where "all animals are equal" {LOL})...

But and if you ARE in charge, then you OUGHT to already have some idea -- well in advance of the person coming in board -- of what level of skills they have... and your "egalitarian" attitude already smacks of a "Gillette shaver kind of dude."

If you're just a lowly peon (cube slave); then of course you don't have ANY responsibility... for anything. (Including apparently also not giving a shit about your work environment... good luck with that.)
