I went on a cruise by myself last year I cracked up . Mom and my family all were worried about me and "sympathetic. The married cruisers on board seemed to pity me , I made friends with a married couple and the wife called me brave in between her and her husband bickering .

I had the time of my life. I was basically on a floating hotel with all the alcohol and food I could want at my fingertips. I could flirt with complete strangers and every morning woke up in a different city or part of the world . I didn't have to ask anyone else what we should do , I didn't have to ask anyone else where we should go . All I did was look at my phone for the time , keep track of my agenda and any excursions I purchased and ran in whatever direction the wind blew me that day .

I had a fantastic time , I was so self conscious and worried that people would think I'm some sort of weirdo loner ( which I mean I am ) but honestly I had a better time going on vacation myself then I would have if I took anybody along ( especially any women like I did in my first cruise) .

If you want to go somewhere for fake social points and be pressured to do shit you aren't interested in or spend money on expensive bullshit go with a woman or a bitchy guy .

If you want to have a good time visiting a new place a your own leisure go by yourself I had an amazing time .

Carry on mate! This is really an enlightening experience. I have been traveling solo since 2011 and realized how beautiful it is.

I can share some of my experiences. Not imposing what is right or wrong, these are just my thoughts.

I have learned that people are basically good intrinsically. Even the worst bitter person has his reasons to be so, and even he has the capability of showing love and respect.
Since most of the people are intrinsically good, you can trust most of them. You would find some people taking advantage of you, but those incidents are rare, and you also learn from them.
Despite being solo, we humans are social animals. I have good money to get hotels, but I always prefer to interact with people and learn from them. Therefore, I either use couchsurfing.com or rent hostels. Trust me, you get to meet many interesting people while traveling. They are also very helpful as you get information about the local stuff from these guys.
In the end, just enjoy what you are doing. Don’t be scared of exploring new things.

I've done solo trips and trips together. For me it was like this:

Most fun. When traveling together with someone I match/compatible with and (at least some) similar interests. It adds enjoyment (of good comapny) to the experience of the travel.
Middle fun. Traveling solo.
Least fun, or better said No Fun/Horrible. Traveling with someone I am not a match/compatible with and the bickering and irritation ruining the fun of the trip/holiday.

I’m planning a trip like this to Iceland. I think it’s better to go somewhere and make new acquaintances there. I went with a friend to Japan last year, he just ended up getting on my nerves and I bailed two weeks early.

seriously, all my trips with friends are always 50-90% more annoying.
All the ones I took solo are 90% awesome, while sometimes I run into things like car breaking down, etc...

It's always better solo. The trips I make now with friends is for things like 4 wheeling or single trax on dirt bikes, and then it's much better with others b/c someone always breaks down and/or the group thing is safer.

Good on you, man. Anyone with a brain would be slightly anxious traveling so far away from home why yourself, but you've done the hard part and pushed yourself out there. I think you'll find that you have plenty of people wanting to hang out with you, here and there. I don't know where in Europe you're from, but my accent alone draws Americans' attention to me. Solo trips are the best. I had a three week trip to Europe partially ruined because I didn't get along with a colleague who was my traveling partner.

Outside of family vacations, I don't travel with others.
