I had this experience with a girl I was fucking.

I've been on this earth for 27 years and I have literally never asked someone to "treat me to dinner". It's like they think it's a privilege. "I'll let you buy me a drink". My friend once offered his wife a footrub since she had been on her feet a lot that day. I remember I used to have a friend and one day I said nonchaantly " I definitely treat my girlfriend differently than I do my friends or any other women in my life" .

I thought it was a completely rational statement... the person I'm in a relationship is of course valued in a different ( honestly superior) way than other women in my life would be ... DUH . She got so offended and proceeded to tell me how wrong that was . I don't even remember what the bullshit rationalizations were and I don't think they matter because DUH no one treats a friend like their Significant Other if that friend is truly just a friend .

I remember having dinner with an ex around this time and I just knew the woman who I used to spend stupid amounts of money and time trying to keep happy would agree with me... how could she not ? I used to drop everything to be by her side or fight to get her what she wanted.

Much to my shock she too agreed with my female friend .. It was WRONG to treat a woman in a lesser way or not sacrifice just as much for a " friend" as I would my girlfriend .

That was one of the first moments I saw how different the minds of women were . The idea that I would treat a woman who I am not dating the same way I would treat a woman I am dating is laughable .

It kind of reminds me when people say " treat her like you would your mother" ..... That has to be the biggest crock of horse shit I've heard of in my life. You want me to treat some random woman I probably don't know that well like my mother who I can recall taking care of me when I was sick , sacrificing for me to support us growing up , and Who I can recall doing everything from walking me to kindergarten to going on my college walkthroughs with as a late teen ?

It's asinine that women think they all should be treated by the woman you value most in your life.

I'm always "surprised" by these horror stories. I have quite a few female friends actually, and we've... well they've never ever wanted me to pay for them for anything, and when we go out drinking with a bigger circle of friends it'd be quite awkward if wanted to buy them anything.
I've quite a good female friend and we've spotted each other for food quite a few times, when the other had it rough (uni students). It was never like, oh i spotted her for food and got nothing back. Nono, next week she spotted me for the same kind of food (within the price range i mean). If any girl that's a friend wanted me to buy the food, just like the woman in discussion wanted, i'd probably laugh in her face
