Sad to hear of NCOs setting their joes up for failure. Usually they're the ones telling you to hold off on marriage.

Nobody bothered me while I was in because I was too busy working my ass off. They knew I had just broken up with my high school girlfriend and I was in rage mode ever since - I spent my nights drinking and my days and evenings working my primary and secondary jobs.

The unit benefited so they said nothing.

My secondary job was to straighten out the NBC room (gas masks/chemical detectors) which had fallen into neglect ever since the end of the Cold War. When I assumed responsibility for it, it was at about 11% regulatory compliance. Two years of working on it in my spare time later, it was at 94%.

I got an Army Achievement Medal for this.

Today, that's meaningless - I wish I had spent more time going off base, fucking German women, and exploring the countryside.

You're being goaded in the military to get married? Things sure must have changed since I was in. Anyone who uses the tactics you describe to get your to do anything are not looking out for you. Misery loves company. They are trying to pull into the same mess they are in. I don't think you should even feel the need to respond to them. Just shake your head and say it's more fun watching them make this mistake.

They'd always say that I should get a woman just for the BAH money.

I always laughed and said if the other soldiers were rich off of it, they would have gotten out by now. They never called me a coward or incel, just that I was 'shy'. I didn't care though, I just wasn't interested in a woman telling me how to live my life when I already had a bunch of NCO and Officers telling me already. It got to the point in my unit to where there were too many SHARP (Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Program) complaints, so it was better to not go out. They would have people come down from Battalion all the time to bring in some SHARP personnel.

That wasn't the reason I got out of the military, but the amount of SHARP meetings was way too damn high. It really affected military readiness.

Did 10 years riding the BGW and stayed single the whole time. Being a 95/31b gave me all the insight I needed to do so. I miss the work but not the “mandantory fun” that came with it.

Every dependa was trying to set me up or hook up and got mad when I declined.
