Yup. I had a conversation with a friend recently and she cried at one point and kept changing the topic to things that were only tangentially related as evidence for her side of the conversation. (from privilege to Alabama and such) She said at the end that she didn't feel she could articulate her point well so she was going to send me some articles. I told her not to bother but I'd be happy to talk again if she reads them and wanted to bring those points to the table. Then she openly admitted to not really knowing her side of the argument and that she doesn't have the ability to talk about topics that make her emotional objectively. It was so wild to hear someone actually admit that. All I said is that's something you want to work on if you ever want to have a productive conversation.

My sisters and mom used to start arguments out of nowhere and I'd always try to use logic and reason and facts and evidence to disprove what they're saying. I never ever won a single argument in a entire life.

Nowadays I just agree with them and amplify. They're soooo frustrated that I took away their luxury of creating drama.

Tell me about it, a girl was ranting about wage gap. When I told her that it is because different choices and other factors like willingness to travel for work and so on, she went all crazy and told me about "you don't have the first hand experience so your opinion doesn't matter. Don't follow my stories if you are going to be an insensitive prick like that" and she blocked me. I wish her all the best in life. 😂
