Women fear being bored, and these forbidden men cannot be boring to them cause they are forbidden. They assume they are forbidden for a reason, so the gain is twofold. One they get the drama they crave (a good solution against boredom), and two those males probabbly have qualities why they are forbidden (which again is a good solution against boredom). Long story short, a stable and good man becomes boring quite quick, a forbidden and possible non-stable bad man remains intressting for longer.

They are different and dangerous, both of which mean excitement. In the case of celebs, they have social proof that the guy is desirable in the form of their friends getting wet over him. The gay guy, still has social proof, and if a girl sleeps with him she gets the 'I'm so hot the gay guy went straight just for me' rush.

From a psychological standpoint, It's the classic bad boy complex. They wan't to "Save" this person in a fucked up way. The reason they want to save these men Is because they believe they are too "Beautiful" to have done what they done, or it doesn't matter what they've done/do because their physical beauty trumps the crime. Most women have this, but It gets much more prevalent when the female had household issues, like no father, abusive parents, or mental issues.

Ted bundy, Richard Ramirez, Charles Manson, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, etc all have groupies of mental women. This is what love on mental cocaine does.
