If you read the article, it's not very convincing at all.

All these people saying "lines of code or code count means nothing" is an exaggeration. Code count is at least some of an indicator of how much you contributed. Saying it's meaningless is very dubious; it's actually MORE misleading than saying "it means everything".

In addition, they leave out other things like the fact that some of her "contributions" were things like changing the colour of a scroll bar (I kid you not.)

Basically, they're doubling down on the narrative, AND accusing anyone who says differently of being a sexist troll.

If they're doing this for her, it makes you wonder about the true contributions of other women....

Reminds me of the way Ada Lovelace has been over-sold as "the first programmer" or "one of the first programmers".

Wikipedia then goes on to list the "controversy" over this. It seems Ada was an early example of femwashing. (IE instead of whitewashing an achievement, they claim an achievement "for women")

TLDR: The rebuttal to the claims of Katie Bouman's contributions being exaggerated is unconvincing.

Edit: Like to add that it seems this isn't really Kate's fault; it's the media's fault for trying to make it all about one person, AND and a woman....

While they're right about that viral thing being blown out of context - can we also keep in mind that a lot of it seems pushback on the "STEM girl good" narrative that was just as bad? Her contribution was played up, which diminishes that of the rest of the team behind her. How many images do we see with her and the image on the laptop - versus the FULL team (which at first glance seems roughly 90% male) who should all be getting a slice of this scientific achievement.

I don't think most people meme-ing actually cared who wrote more code, just one person getting all the credit rather then the due share, was what annoyed people. And at this point, a lot of people, especially men, are hypersensitive to that.
