There are different levels of MGTOW. But the general basis follows the idea that you avoid some aspect of women.

Personally MGTOW because it's a simpler life. It comes down to the trade-off for female companionship isn't worth it. Especially in recent times with every female feeling entitled.

YouTube Bill Burr on feminism. It's a hilarious yet accurate view on why men are going their own way. One thing for me personally is the relationships I've had I lost all my freedom and could never do the few things I enjoyed like watch my Notre Dame football, literally a few hours a day on a Saturday was an issue. Yet I had to constantly do things I disliked and didn't want to do for her. Also, the false rape accusations lately have it extremely hard for a lot of men to want to even high five a woman.

No cohabitation, no marriage, and self-improvement. Everything else is up to the individual. What you are seeing is what we call the red pill rage. Men angry after realizing how the world actually is in terms of gender relations. We let them vent because we understand that forcing people to hold on to those frustration only lets them brew and stir, but by letting it out they get through it. The hope is they move past the rage, though some never do.

Also, we don't hate women, but this sub is used to reinforce why we went MGTOW as well as discuss and laugh at the general stupidity.

First off, your premise is wrong. Unlike centrally organized feminism, there is no "true MGTOW", and it's not a movement. It's an ideology that leads men on a path that focuses around their own interests and goals in life, rather then to adopt society's desire of making a woman that goal. How and what is the result of adopting this way of thinking is up to each man individually. The basic premise however is to reject the traditional masculine role of being the provider for a family, just as feminism has caused women to reject the traditional role of nurturer/housekeeper. In that respect, MGTOW is feminism's counterpart.

Some will seek only short term relations, which get terminated when the woman starts wanting something longterm or starts to behave in ways the man disapproves of. Being clingy, unfaithful, bratty or stuff like that. It's up to whoever needs to deal with it what his limit of that kind of thing is. There's still some squabbling over whether or not men who do this are truly MGTOW, but in my opinion there's nothing wrong with this. Still, play with fire, risk getting burnt.
Some will fully commit to another passion, a field of study, or profession. These are men that can fully commit to that since they have no other obligations, and as a result tend to succeed.
Some men will favor minimalist "no stress" lifestyles, getting a job with enough income to sustain themselves, then spend the rest of their time on hobbies. These are the "ghosts", people that are there but go by unnoticed. The man driving alone in a not-too-fancy car. The guy grabbing some pizza's and soda bottles at the grocery store. The dude in cubicle 38 who you never see lauded or complained about, often covers for the odd person falling ill, and never turns up at office parties. Average guys, and there is nothing more ignored by society then an average guy.
Some will check out even further, removing themselves from society entirely, to live off the land in rural areas and become hermits, focusing inward. These "MGTOW monks" are few in number, but for some reason there's a lot of buzz surrounding them. Not sure why, because frankly, all they want is to be left alone.

The stuff you see what you consider to be "hatred of women", is us calling out the double standards that exist for men and women in a post-equality world. Women are still not being held to the same standards as men, while they do demand more equality where it is beneficial to them. The MeToo movement was a great example of how women exploit mans instinctive desire to protect women, but it has turned the legal system into a "guilty until proven innocent" minefield for men. And if you've browsed this sub you should have encountered the many examples where this has been abused. A similar bias exists in the family court system, and family law itself. The legal risk is why MGTOW are vehemently opposed to the concept of marriage and it's legal equivalents. Marriage in a post-feminism world is no longer a lifelong contract... unless you're talking financial ties. When men challenge this double standard we're simply branded sexist, bigoted or whatever other derogatory buzzword of the day is used, so we've stopped trying, and simply opted out of the whole deal. Perhaps once enough women are forced to work themselves to the bone until retirement age, the issue will be reconsidered. Time will tell. What I do know is that MGTOW are the vocal few, but the silent majority? Take a look at the marriage rates among the younger generations. We're not alone over here.
As for what MGTOW means to me? Freedom. I'm divorced myself, 'though without severe financial consequences. Picked myself up from that pitfall, took a long hard look at what went wrong and why, and have been single ever since. Women just don't hold my interest anymore, at least not for intimacy (I do have female friends). I do not have a desire for a family. I provide for myself, and will make sure I've got a nestegg for my retirement saved up... technically I could retire tomorrow and I'm not even 40 yet, but I'm not going to, since I like my job. But having that job be optional is insanely stress reducing. You truly speak from a position of power when you don't need the corporate machine anymore. In my experience the modern women are combative, confrontational. They have become as men in that regard... only a very confused gay man would find that attractive. A good long term relation is based on compatible personalities. Two dominant personalities will always clash. For casual friendships this personality shift makes no difference - for instance, I couldn't care less if my squadmates in some computer games I play with are men or women, as long as they know their stuff.

Finally, your final sentence. Reverse it and commit it to memory: "Men do not exist to serve women."

I appreciate the fact that you're asking politely.

That said, you're proving one of the canards here, that women are inherently lazy. MGTOW is a complex set of ideas (still working on it after several years), yet you flounce in here and ask for people to provide you with instant illumination. And your last paragraph is filled with so much hogwash that it would take weeks to straighten you out.

Did you read the sidebar? Did you spend a day or two listening to the great MGTOW Youtubers like Coltaine, Stardusk, Barbar and newer guys like Sandman and TFM? They fully address all the questions you've asked, including the anger you see here (it's called the Redpill Rage).

If it's so important to you to understand what your father is going through, why don't you start with those Youtubers and then get back to us if you have a specific question you'd like to ask?

And FYI, that "true" in your title is an irksome jab. You admit that you know nothing about MGTOW, yet you feel entitled enough to begin to judge who is, or is not, a "real" MGTOW - i.e. one that you find palatable. Maybe the haters are the real MGTOW. Or maybe hating or not hating women is not a purity test for being a MGTOW.

Also: I guess this could be inappropriate for the subreddit, and I'm happy to delete if that's the case. I seem to see a lot posts about disliking relationships and wanting to be free of women in general. Is that the basic idea? Because I think women are completely capable of toxic behavior and manipulation and stuff, but I have to say I do believe in healthy, happy relationships.
