Tanktops look dumb. Unless you have a V and some really amazing breasts, you know when the sports bra pokes out the side... then it would be ok.

If you're built, it's probably good, although you look like a meathead. If you're not built, it probably looks like you're trying to be a meathead.

Tank tops are very functional, if there's a particular function that do you need them for, then wear them. I don't think that they are fashion in any sense, and as far as looking good, it won't ever help you achieve that.
