I am having trouble with some of the orthodoxy/theory on TRP. I simply want to discuss aspects of the perspective this subreddit espouses— I’m not angry or looking for a fight or anything like that. Let me explain- I definitely think most people are initially attracted to looks. I am. I think people who are conventionally attractive receive unfair advantages, sure. And I do think much of our internal preferences are biological and thus not very alterable. But what about talent, ambition, artistry and passion? What about conversational charm, genuine interest in other people, and a desire not to use but to appreciate and live alongside others? Would you guys say that an attractive guy who lacks those qualities would emerge more successful than an uglier guy who possesses them? I’m in total agreement that attractive people receive more initial sexual interest, but a lot of super hot guys are boring as a stick. I just don’t get TRP’s insistence that attractiveness rules all. If that were true, how can one account for the virtuosic sexual prowess of Picasso or Victor Hugo or Joe DiMaggio or even Billy Joel? I know these are kinda silly examples, but I cba to think of better. besides, don’t you guys want a relationship? Or is TRP strictly in regards to people looking for sexual gratification? Again, I’m not trying to anger anyone- I’m intrigued by the movement and hope to find some discourse on the flaws I find within it.
