My father died two weeks ago, while working on his vehicle, of sudden cardiac death.

I'm the only one of my siblings that lives nearby, so I secured some sentimental items (mostly stored family photos), and my father's firearms. For safekeeping until all of my siblings can get here. Coincidentally, my oldest sister was moving back to the state on 7/7/18 and my younger brother was planning on being here from 7/12/18 - 8/1/18. My other sister lives a few hours drive away.

So, I thought I'd leave my father's house as he left it, for them to see it when they had the chance to get here. I padlocked the gate, locked the garage and his house. Checking on the home every other day.

Just 7 days after he died, I found the house broken into. Ransacked, every single drawer/box/bag was pilfered through and tossed aside after anything of potential value was removed.

A drawer filled with Japanese dishware (sake serving sets, rice bowls, various other small pieces) that'd been in my family for over 50 years was gone. Only a single chopstick rest was left behind. My father's Star Trek collectibles (cups, pewter starship displays), tools, desk clocks, jewelry, even a large portrait of my deceased parents was stolen off the wall.

They had repaired his truck, then stole the truck with the items in the house stuffed in the back.

Thankfully, the police recovered the vehicle and, I hope, all of the stolen items.

It was a man and a woman, the woman was someone my Dad had let stay in his spare bedroom off and on over the last 3 years when she had nowhere else to go. When questioned by the police, she said she didn't even know my dad. The man, I have never met or heard from but is likely the current branch she's swinging from.

Sadly, another thief (or thieves) stole my father's ATV the very next day.
