I've started bringing coolers to work with me that contain healthy food. I've opted out of using the gross fridge at work. I have one cooler for unsweetened black tea and the other for my lunch plus snacks such as watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, apples, carrot sticks, etc. That way when I'm on my break I can have a healthy snack and not some junk food snack from the vending machine. All their stuff is full of sugar, salt, white flour, and God knows what else.

I'm overweight thanks to a medication I used to take to prevent migraines. It made the headaches go away, but it also made me ultra-crave rich foods. However, I'm choosing not be play the victim or to demand that other people pretend that being overweight isn't a problem. Instead, I'm taking action to do something about it. Changing my diet is the first step. I just cannot eat the sugary and salty stuff. It provokes a migraine and makes me unhealthy in other ways. I'm getting to prefer a piece of watermelon over a candy bar. I've noticed it's helping me to feel better too. I've got a ways to go, but it's great to already be feeling a little better.

My next step will be to add some basic exercise. I've already organized my kitchen so that I can regularly cook healthy stuff. I have several health-based cookbooks. So far I've been able to find healthy foods that I genuinely enjoy that aren't all full of salt, sugar, fat, and other crap. They're full of vegetables with plenty of fiber and nutrients. I feel better when I eat that way. There's a gym down the street from my work. They don't rope you into a long-term contract. You can just go month to month, so I'm going to sign up and start working out. I've ordered one of those Gear Fits online to track my fitness level.

The other upgrade I've done is keeping my place more tidy. It wasn't a disaster before, but it lacked organization. Now I hit it every weekend and do small maintenance during the week. It makes it way easier to know where stuff is. By keeping it up, it makes it way easier when I clean it on the weekend because there's not as much work to do. Keeping the kitchen super neat has also made it way easier to cook healthy food.

So these are my upgrades. I'm refusing to play the victim or to blame any of my problems on others. Instead, I'm taking action that can make my life better. It feels pretty good. At some point I'll get all the extra weight off. For now I'm enjoying the modest improvements in my health.
