Summary: Many people finding PUA or TRP are socially shy and uncalibrated. Every opportunity to feel more open, manly and confident should be appreciated. You can get pretty good confidence boost from simple thing like a successful bargain.

This will (hopefully) be a short one. The premise: you build confidence every day of your life and every interaction you have. As a man you should welcome all the opportunities to train your social skills and become more confident.

We all know that when in transaction we should never agree right away to other party's terms. You don't do that when auditioning for a job or buying used stuff. And you shouldn't when you buy new things - be it a watch or a car or anything of value. There's no downside to asking for a discount or free gifts. At the very worst you will get a strange look and buy the thing for a retail price anyway (compare that to daygame - it's the exact same lack of downside).

You can almost always get something out of any transaction just because you asked for it. It's really that simple. If you're buying some stuff or a service for the first time it's perfectly acceptable to ask for a free sample / trial / a gift for new customers. When you buy in bulk - you should ask how big of a discount you'll get. If you buy in one place all the time - befriend the staff so they recognize you and ask if they have any customer program. Even if they don't, they can probably give you some kind of discount.

When buying big expensive things think big. Never buy anything worth significant amount of money without checking the price in at least three places. And I'm not talking about just comparing the prices. Call them, tell them you are going to buy that exact thing and finish that with some made-up story of how you got a great offer for the item but it's somehow inconvenient (in another city or country, last year's model or whatever). You don't want to travel just to get the item so if they can match the price you'll buy from them. It's a great way to start - they know you're interested, it's just a matter of how much that trip and associated hassle is worth to you.

Of course start lower than you're able to pay (I think anywhere from 10% to 20% discount is a good starting point but it all depends on type of goods). That way you can end up somewhere around your limit. And if not - well - that's why you're calling at least three places. You'll have a good view of the profit margin on that particular item. Remember that no one will sell you anything with a loss so you can push hard.

Also remember that in the deal there should be something for the selling party too. I was recently buying a motorbike and during negotiations I told them that I will be buying accessories. Funny thing was, after picking the best deal, they just gave me some of those for free (while others wanted to bill me for installation of OEM parts; no money for them).

As a cherry on top, after deals have been made and advance has been paid, I ordered additional third party parts and got them even cheaper that I expected. Not at first but after getting the price I just replied with "I was expecting somewhere near [my price]. I hope installation will be cheap." They matched the price and installed them for free. Just because I asked.

It's not a big deal. It happens every day all around everyone unbeknownst to some guys that buy everything for listed price.

I'm sure people that are in sales can pile on with many more tips and tricks on how to actually bargain. I'm no expert but it's just what I do when I buy stuff. What I try to say is there's whole other area where you can train your confidence, gain much needed experience and even gain something valuable in the process. Now this isn't a sexual value topic at all but those kind of experiences are the building stones to become more confident, demanding man.

Lessons learned:

  • Bargaining is another exercise that can be used to build confidence.
  • It further reinforces your "buyer" mentality. I'm the one that picks and writes the terms.
  • You can actually get things cheaper / for free. All it takes is some trial and error (there's no downside).
