That seems overkill. New phone number for family and even old friends? You dont get random texts from distant aunts or cousins?
I'm not changing my number ever, and certainly not over a woman.

You are a real MGTOW, just as me. #GhostMode

I kept the same number for around 20 years cos it is easy to remember and it helps greatly that I have being living what I now know as Monk Mode from long before then, so no worries about old girlfriends.

> I'm not changing my number ever, and certainly not over a woman.
No, but you did change your lifestyle and everything in it around one if you found yourself in the predicament where you have to call it quits, amirite?
I have no relationship with any of my relatives beyond my nuclear family and I could care less about the odd acquaintance from 5 years ago that hits me up thinking I know where some weed is under the guise of calling "just to say hello" It takes about 15 minutes to change my number on my important accounts (financial/email) that I use for 2FA and about 20 seconds to edit the number on my resume that's saved in a .doc file. My mother, father, half-sister and a few of my closest friends are only 1 easy text away to let them know I have a new number. I'd rather have the peace of mind instead of being called every other day under a different number because this crazy bitch doesn't want to leave me alone. Harassment you say? Call the cops you say? Get a restraining order? Lol...cops will laugh at you, a judge will tell you too bad, and it's more trouble than it's worth to get a restraining order for no contact. If she comes to my house..eh, that's a different story, but stupid bitches will always take the easiest way out and either blow your phone up, get their friends to do it, or submit your number to god knows what hoping you get robocalls. If she's dumb enough to come to my house with that nonsense then i'll do what I have to do. It's never come to that, thankfully. Changing my number was totally worth it.

It was over the moment you agreed to be her boyfriend. She was already trying to monkey-branch the moment she knew she had your commitment.

This. They fucking hate me . Blocked every last One of them still get calls.
[–]BoringHat12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Just remember that they (and you) are still human; you will eventually turn hate to indifference.
[–]consent_is_rape7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
you will eventually turn hate to indifference
wise words. its like death in that the inevitable transformation of malcontent turns into complete indifference over time. most people that were close to me that have died (of all the deaths ive experienced only 4 were in this category, my grandmother, 2 friends, and my friend's mother) all fade from being the front and center of your attention after a while. it's been 11 years and 2 months since my grandmother died, roughly 8 years since my two friends died, and 4 years since my friend's mother died. sooner or later you forget about worrying about them, what you could have done and didn't do while they were here, and realize your own life is ultimately the most important thing you have at any moment, and you should always be making the most efficient time of what you do have left..not steeped in malice or dread and despair. being in my mid 30s and with both parent's in the mid 60s, i know that at best i have 20 more years left with them, and at worst they could die any second. sure it's going to be tough and i'll curse the heavens and myself for a bunch of things that are out of my control. i might pick up some addictive habit to cope or a positive hobby to take my mind off of it... but i do know that whenever the inevitable happens, eventually i'll get over it and everything will be alright, until it's my time too.

I have a solution for this, and it can be used for anyone, not just ex's.
I have had the same number for years (it hasn't changed since they phased out analogue phones). Why should I change my number because someone I don't want to talk to may call me?
I have never used voicemail, and I never intend to. So I setup a contact called SPAM. When I get a call from a telemarketer (not very often), or someone I don't want to be able to contact me like an ex, I add that number to the SPAM contact. I have the SPAM contact set to ALWAYS go to voicemail. The phone doesn't even ring.
Boom, no more random calls from people I don't want to talk to.
This used to be a little easier on older versions of Android, where they had a call blocking feature built in, but my current phone doesn't have that feature. This is the only reason why I came up with this solution.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
What's your current phone? Very odd to hear it doesn't have blocking as a feature.

Sony Z5 compact with android 5.1.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Go to your call log, long hold on the number you want. Select add to reject list.
[–]plazmafire0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I don't have that option when I long-hold on a number.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
What options does it give?
[–]plazmafire0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
View contact
Edit number before call
Send text message
Delete from call log
If it's a number that's NOT in my contacts, the first one changes to Add to Contacts

That's... odd. Can you update the OS version from 5.1?
[–]plazmafire0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Not officially. I've tried to do it through the phone's OS, but the update screen tells me there are no updates available.
I can't be stuffed rooting it just to change the OS for the addition of one or two small functions. But it's not a current model any more, so I doubt the update situation will change.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's fair.
[–]Idiot_Savant_Tinker3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The same can be done with android. It's glorious. I set it so that work can't bother me when I'm trying to sleep.
[–]Idiot_Savant_Tinker2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I have android 8.1, and it has call blocking. That said, I'm stealing your SPAM contact idea. Keep all the people I don't want to talk to in their own little cage.
[–]BachelorInc0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I get these 'Scam Likely' calls multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day. This wasn't the case just a few short years ago. I would NEVER receive them.
Is this pretty common now?
[–]urban38791 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Get them every day from volp numbers. Unfortunately it's not illegal
[–]RobJuanDeLaNooch1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Very. Sometimes they don't register as "scam likely" and is an unknown number from another state. Plain and simple, just don't answer unknown numbers unless you're expecting a certain call like a for job interview. If it's important they'll leave a voice mail.

My final ex pulled me back in after two or three years of peace by saying our once shared dog was on his last legs and wondering if I’d like to see him one more time. I fell for it and resumed a FWB style relationship for three or four months until she surprised everyone by killing herself. The hot-crazy matrix at its most dreadful.

Once my last relationship was over, I took it upon myself to annihilate every possible avenue she might try to contact me through. More over, I was a drunk back then and thought I might try to contact her one night when I was desperate and shitfaced. I'd commonly black out or fly off into some psychotic rage of indignation and depression. In the process, I dropped most social media and I feel I'm better off for it. Don't have the same phone number either, and she was blocked on my previous one.
When it comes to that shit, burning bridges and cutting people off, I have the heart of a fucking lion.

As a super-ghost, I used to change my disposable tracfone and phone number about every 3 months. Now with my iPhone, I just block.

TLDR; woman uses a potentially dying animal to extort me.
My ex-gf got the dog in the separation, partly because I was forced to move where no pit mixes are allowed. (I know, I know). Plus, the dog got the run of 6 acres, where else she would have to be locked up 13+ hours a day due to my work 4 days a week.
This was 8 months ago. I got a call yesterday that my beloved dog was sluggish and was having trouble breathing. Long story short, the dog was brought by my ex into the dog ED, and it was discovered that she ate a fox tail plant, and likely had the barbs in her mouth, esophagus, and perhaps trachea. I get a text that the procedure would be about 800 to get them all out, maybe more.
Ex stated that they needed 50 percent up front to start the procedure. I love that dog more than most humans, so I transferred money into the exe's account to get the procedure started. Result was 40+ foxtails removed from the mouth and esophagus of the dog.
I get another text from the ex while I am on shift in the emergency department stating that she would have to apply for vet credit due to them wanting to bill appropriately, and probably get denied.
As a nurse, I understand this.
I called to settle the bill in full with my credit card after googling the clinic's number because I did not trust the ex.. Spoke to the clinic...ex gf had not given a dime of the 400 I sent her to before the procedure started. I had them send me an invoice, with the intention to pay the remainder after the email was sent to me with a screenshot of the itemized bill.
I had the staff run her card with the condition that the dog is held hostage until payment by the ex is made, which is what the vet intended anyway. I paid the difference after the transaction is complete.
Turns out the ex gf planned to pocket the money and have me pay 50 percent and she would have had a bill forwarded to collections...like she cares, her credit sucks.
Turns out she would use her "reason for living" to extort me for money, even when the dog is in legitamit distress.
Currently looking for a new place to live, a dog walker, and a plan to kidnap back the dog.

Thankfully I blocked her on facebook and deleted her number

Hahhahaa. Just use escorts, they don't even want to contact you after you two don't want to meet each other. No commitments, not necessary, but a better idea than a girlfriend if you really want a female companion.

I had an ex call me 7 years after she broke it off with me wanting to get back together. She went broke it off with me to go marry her on again/off again boyfriend.
I dated this girl named Alllyson for a time and we actually had a good relationship. She was a down to earth, non-party person, like myself. There was this guy she dated off and on since high school and for some reason, both of their families wanted them together. Her family didn't like me, but she didn't let that get to her, so I thought.
One weekend, a friend of her and her sister's was getting married and they were going to out on the town for a bachelorette party. Allyson didn't want to go, but she got talked into going because it was her friend. After that Saturday, I didn't hear from her for a few days, which was unusual because we talked almost every day.
I was going to go to her friend's wedding with her and was wondering what was up. She called and told me we weren't going because she got married. While they were out, she ran into the ex and they started talking. He had finished medical school and was going off to L.A. for his internship, and wanted her to go with him. I don't think the meeting was a coincidence and her sister set it up. The sister didn't like me much either so I can see why she did it.
Allyson told me she realized she wanted to be with the other guy, so they went out the next day and got married. I live in Nevada which has a huge quickie wedding industry so one can literally get married on a whim here if they like. I was hurt, but I wished her well and told her I hoped they had a good life together.
7 years later, she calls me out of the blue wanting to get back together. She told she was back in town and her ex pretty much treated her like a trophy wife because he had this successful medical practice treating a lot of rich and powerful people. She even told me she got a nice settlement and we could begin a great life together with it. I had started dating someone else at the time, but even if I wasn't with anyone, I would have still told her to get lost. What she did just wasn't right and I told her so and I had moved on and she needs to do the same.
I didn't date anyone for a few years after what she did and after that, only dated occasionally. I worked on myself during that time, getting in better shape, buying a small condo for myself, and just enjoying being on my own. Today, that is how I live now. No girlfriends, relationships, no trolling clubs, bars, etc. looking for women. Just living free on my own and being happy. No strings, no commitments, just freedom.
