It just has to be the way SHE wants it. No part of a relationship can ever be the way the man wants it. Everything has to be what she wants. Everything has to conform to her wants, needs, and desires.

That's the man's protest, when you get all the way down to it. It's "Why does it always have to be the way you want it? Why can't it be the way I want it sometimes? Why can't you compromise with me the way I compromise with you in order to have a relationship with you?"

A better way to phrase it internally would be

"It's not going to be the way you want, all the time. Some things in this relationship will be the way I want. And you need to compromise to accommodate me on that. If you cannot or will not do that, then we won't have a relationship anymore."
