While i'm sure there were problems that needed to be ironed out, I really feel like the analysis is half baked and reductionist . Furthermore, the medieval period being described as 'returning to the bronze age' is an outdated and ignorant concept. It was not nearly as 'dark' as you're describing, and you're also forgetting the eastern roman empire never fell until 1493.

That post has an atrocious misunderstanding of the Roman Empire...

In the 1st Century BC, there was nobody who did "not need to work." The reason why Rome had such a powerful army is because of the Marian reforms, which allowed the countless poor to enlist in the army to actually make ends meet (it finally became a career choice). You had people like Crassus who owned up all of the land, and with all the free labor (slavery) it was super difficult for your average citizen to find work and go anywhere in life. So he went into the army.

The 1st-2nd Century AD was known as the Golden Age of the Roman Empire, when the Empire was at its richest and most expansive. Ever hear of the Five Good Emperors? They were pretty much the entire first half of the 2nd Century. And the Principate started off pretty well with figures like Augustus, Claudius, and Vespasian...

The 3rd Century was a disaster, yes, and the Empire should have fallen then (but Diocletian was too much of a badass to let that happen). I'd argue that Christianity definitely majorly contributed to the future fall of the Western Empire because it helped destroy the unity of the Empire that had made it so great, but it wasn't the only major factor. The use of mercenaries and the integration of foreigners into the government/army also contributed greatly to this disunity.

And nothing happened to humanity after the fall of the Western Empire; the Eastern Empire was rich as shit and had been outperforming the Western Empire in every aspect since pretty much the 3rd Century. When the West fell, only the West fell. Constantinople didn't fall for like another 1,000 years.

You can't blame feminism for the downfall of civilizations. It is merely a symptom.

In times of need - few resources, war, famine, etc., the patriarchy is established as a means to survive. Men fight and thrive, slowly building up their systems. Civilization progresses, resources abound and walls are created to protect the people from the outside world. In this plentiful environment, the population skyrockets.

This sheltered, bountiful, overpopulated community is slowly corroded by social decay. It worsens with each generation. The family unit is destroyed. Men seem to become less dominant and motivated, perhaps with lower overall testosterone levels. Given the lack of a common external threat that would otherwise the tribe united, people start actively fighting each other for space and resources.

Women's natural inclination to secure resources means that, when given power, they'll always push for some sort of resource redistribution or welfare. People who have more resources are resented, even if they deserved (created) them. The forced redistribution of resources could seem good at a first glance, but in the long run compromises the generation of new resources. All of this, coupled with the sub-replacement fertility rate caused by the social decay, leads to the general collapse of the civilization.

Of course, this is a gross generalization, but the principle stands.

That's just an embarassing level of historical ignorance.

Only the small patrician elite, who drew its wealth from land, could afford not to work. Luxuries like spices and running water were only available to few, likewise for nannies.

All of Roman history was literred with corruption scandals, as public officials systematically exploited office to enrich themselves; there was never a golden age of virtue. Prostitution was always extremely widespread, which was common in ancient societies.

The Middle Ages had nothing to do with the cavemen eating squirrel. Much that was no longer societally useful or sustainable was abandoned, and much more was invented where it was needed. Commerce definitely didn't disappear (ever heard of Venice? the Maritime Republics? the Hanseatic merchant cities?), neither did philosophy (Saint Augustine? scholasticism? Thomas Aquinas?).

This is simply /badhistory material. Feminism is a 20th-21st century phenomenon with no historical antecedents except in limited circumstances and always only concerning wealthy noblewomen. The widespread emancipation of women in all social strata is unprecedented, as are its consequences.

I remained unconvinced. I've studied Asian history (Chinese, Japs) extensively. Those cultures have remained relatively patriarchal to this day. How do you explain that?

I was hoping for more than a single well known example.

Actually there are many matriarchal societies. The problem is none of them ever advanced past the stone age. I thought the evidence of giving women equal rights as a source of ruining civilizations had more examples than Rome and maybepossibly Babylon on some pretty flimsy evidence (child support laws- that's it?)

Better yet why not mention current matriarchal societies. A very well known example that comes to mind is the Mosuo tribe in China. These guys throughout their history never really made it past villages.

The funniest part is that women don't seem to understand following logic. No sex + rampant disrespect = no motivation. They are actually stupid enough not to realize that society exists through men's efforts. And without mean it simply ceases to exist. This is female solipsism at its finest.

I remain convinced that humanities greatest power is also it's greatest flaw. It's inability to stabilize a higher level of conscious thinking.
