I have... for almost a year. No car either... I live in a warm climate though.

Survived by washing windows for local shops and squatted at night in local marinas... wait till late, sneak in, find an unlocked boat and sleep until just before sunrise.

Rinse and repeat.

Agree in full. I'm tiring of "muh stock portfolio" and "muh mortgage-free mansion and jet car and bitcoin fortune". Good for you. Congrats. Talking about money when you have lots is fucking boring.

I was raised in vile poverty. Welfare single mother. Nothing expected of me. Jail maybe? Day labour and a fat trash wife and ugly inbred looking rats? Basically raised myself since I was nine. Mom useless cunt. Never homeless technically but I've lived in unimaginably foul places. Starved for up to a week. Even sucked dick a few times to eat and/or get high. No regrets. It made me who I am. Got my shit together and live a quiet decent life now.

Lessons:

You are utterly alone. Money can buy happiness. People in the same situation are usually incredibly giving and decent. The government is useless. Life is defined by little things. If you don't believe that, wear fresh clean clothes after being in the same smelly garments for a week, be so hungry eating an apple makes you weep with joy, sleep in clean sheets. Despite being an addict at one point and dealing with mental health issues, nothing on earth feels better than a good laugh that rekindles your soul.

I wasn't homeless so to speak, but i had no money for 2 months.

Yes its not as hard as being homeless, but all i had was water and a place to sleep at night...electricity was cut cause u no play.

During this time, i tried to find a job, any job, and failed miserably, so instead i would just go to malls, get those pennies from the carts until i have enough money for a loaf of bread.

I lived 2 entire months on water, bread, and sometimes sugar to add some flavor or when my energy levels were just too low.

I was 19 at the time, and i truly felt what it was to be on your own, no one would ask about you, "friends" would come up with excuses to avoid you, and your feelings didnt matter at all.

Hate for the entire world wouldnt help at the time, sadness wouldnt get people to help you...its just survive at any cost.

When I was a student I helped in a homeless shelter as charity work. Once a week I drove a mini-bus full of medical equipment there, and a doctor would be there to treat the homeless. I acted as his secretary. He sent me a few that mainly wanted to talk to deal with. Almost all their stories started with a woman. Some of them were crazy like I never saw elsewhere. Thinking back, writing this, perhaps these were my first red pills.

When you hit the bottom, nothing feels the same in life anymore, you have no friends, no family when you are in deep shit and after that nothing really matters

people reject you when you have lived or are living through shit

Figured I could try to start an original post from someone who struggles with the streets at the present moment.

Some of the best...and worst times, have happened to me while I was homeless.

Not really exactly homeless but...

For 3 months or so I lived in abandoned building that was gutted. Mountains of rat shit and insulation that they tore out of the walls. No internal walls just frames. All my clothes and skin shredded by rusty nails. I slept on the floor with mice and rats running over me. To stay warm in through the winter, I burned scavenged wood in a fireplace with no door. One night an ember shot out and burned a gaping whole through my sleeping bag and left a giant burned crater in the floor. Woke to all this strange smoke. Turned out it was me.

I never before lived without clean, warm clothes and shelter. It was in many ways an amazing experience. Liberating and stressful at the same time. I was happy. Strangely free.

Things I learned.

THE GREAT PARADOX: It takes intelligence to be poor. Every single purchase takes great deliberation to stretch your dollar. I literally worked out calories per dollar to figure out the cheapest way to stay alive. Didn't even own a pot to boil pasta or rice. In retrospect, that was a big mistake because pasta & rice are the cheapest calories to live off of.
MICE & RATS are NOT afraid of humans. Just absolutely shocked how fearless these little pricks were. After throwing a tantrum on them 2 times, they would shameless climb right back onto you. They would nibble my fingers.

I always managed to toe the line between homeless and having a roof over my head to sleep tonight, but it took every single ounce of my resources. I essentially lived out of a travelling bag for over 2 years spending each day trying to make sure I would not be sleeping on the streets that night. It taught me I'm a survivor but I never want to been in that position again. Maslow's Hierarchy is right, if you don't have your basic safety well covered, you won't be able to concern yourself with anything else.
